For me, this debate has some parallels to the Tommy vs. Who's Next debate (which I started another thread about). The consensus two best albums by a particular band, one being more cohesive and the other a better collection of individual songs. This decision is an easier one for me though. I'll go with Moving Pictures.
aw man, don't make me choose..... Hey, I love 2112. But i'll go with MP for this one reason: MP has no bad tracks, not even one second of let up; 2112 has "Tears", which I like alot but it isnt on par with the rest of the album.
I voted for MP because it was the album that broke down the barriers for Rush and put them at the highest level in their field, and it remains my favorite recording of theirs and is in my all time top 20 rock albums of all time.
2112 is a classic, and foreshadowed the great things to come both are essential Rush albums in any "serious" rock music fans collection with good taste.
