Electric Eden (new book about Brit folk-rock)

I've just ordered this mammoth-sized (800-plus pages) book which chronicles the UK folk/rock hybrid spanning the early 60's to the present. It's called Electric Eden and it's written by Rob Young, former editor of The Wire. I know a few of you might be interested and it wouldn't surprise me if...

    The Worst Musical Decade?

The music we like, classic rock, peaked during the 70's and it's been going downhill ever since which each decade worst than the previous one. I guess that would make this decade the worst one yet.

    Bee Gees (Official Thread)

Re: Bee Gees Their masterpiece, as far as I'm concerned. I'll go so far as saying it's as good as anything the Beatles were putting out at the time. Odessa is wonderful too except it could have been shorter. Not all of it works but the stuff that does work is terrific.

    What is your favorite band?

I like almost everything Canterbury-related to varying degrees. Such a magical time. It seems hard to believe that three groups (Gong, Soft Machine and Caravan) spawned all that great music. I wish someone would write a long and detailed book on the Canterbury scene.

    What is your favorite band?

They wouldn't be my favorite band because it's almost a bottomless pit trying to keep tabs on everything Gong-related. But I must say, that's a very inspired choice. Had I known more about them in my younger days and was able to keep up with everything, I might be agreeing with you. Gong's an...

I don't really have one favorite band anymore.

John Lennon's Murderer Up For Parole August 9th.

Here's what the All Music Guide said about Yoko and her music and I think it's pretty much spot on. 'Few women in the history of rock & roll have stirred as much controversy as Yoko Ono. Although her romance with John Lennon was hardly the only factor straining the relationships between the...

John Lennon's Murderer Up For Parole August 9th.

Right. I had forgotten about Chapman. Keep the bastard in jail until he croaks and I'd say that about anybody who guns down someone in cold blood. Some people don't deserve to be members of our society.

    Henry Cow

I'm in a lazy mood myself which is why I didn't go into detail. However, if no one comes forth with info on Henry Cow, I'll put something together. Like I said, I'm relatively new to the group and I'm hoping there's a few fans here who can share some insight.

John Lennon's Murderer Up For Parole August 9th.

John was running around on Cynthia long before Yoko entered the picture. There's no way he would have stayed with her. If it wasn't Yoko who snagged John for herself, some other girl would have. So the myth that Yoko was a homewrecker holds no weight. It takes TWO to tango and even the most...

Expanded CD's or The Unrealesed Tracks Debate

Makes perfect sense, doesn't it? The same logic applies to regular albums. If a track isn't to your liking then you just skip it. It's a no-lose proposition.

    Henry Cow

I'm just now starting to get into them. Any fans here? They're the avant-garde end of prog and their music isn't the most accessible. But if you have the patience and an open-mind, you'll be rewarded. A really unique collection of musicians who spawned other groups and off-shoots such as Slapp...

    Rough n Gruff Unique Voices

Some of the choices made on this thread are completely baffling. John Fogerty? Neil Young? To each their own, I guess... Good call on Maggie Bell, Joe. Here's some that come to mind for me... Mike Harrison (Spooky Tooth) David Johansen ( NY Dolls) Janis Joplin Richard Thompson Paul Rodgers...

The most overplayed songs on FM radio!

Yeah, Radar Love is over-played around these parts. I used to like it, the first 100 times I heard it, that is.

Is the "Art Rock" genre/label extinct?

Why not? All the ingredients are there.

The most overplayed songs on FM radio!

As a resident of NE PA. I can easily verify that. Tom Cochrane's Life Is a Highway and Lunatic Fringe are also extremely popular around these parts for reasons unknown to me.

Is the "Art Rock" genre/label extinct?

Steve Wilson is like a one man army in keeping art and prog rock alive. I'm a recent convert to him and I'm flabbergasted by the amount of work he's put out. Not only from Porcupine Tree but his other groups and solo stuff too. He doesn't stay in one spot either. Some of his music is very Pink...

Fellow Rockers Who Have Held Up Better Than Keith Richards

It seems like Jerry Lee's been stuck at 74 for awhile now. :D I'm pretty sure he's closer to 80 but if he wants to say he's 74 that's fine with me. Jerry Lee isn't the type of person you'd want to get angry.

John Lennon's Murderer Up For Parole August 9th.

The only thing that's mind-boggling to me as how you can hate someone as much as you do without ever meeting them or knowing them.

The most overplayed songs on FM radio!

I can't understand how anyone could listen to a classic rock station all the time for years on end. Yet many people do.

Is the "Art Rock" genre/label extinct?

Porcupine Tree could be considered art rock and their popularity continues to grow.
