Hello Classic Rockers!
My name is Douglas Akers and for the past 3 years I've been filming the official Documentary of Detroits legendary concert venue, Cobo Arena.
We have had the great fortune to interview some of the biggest names to ever grace the stage and recorded live albums there.
So many classic albums were recorded at Cobo it is amazing.
Yes, Kiss, Bob Seger, Journey, J. Geils, the Doors... It's a hellava list!
Check out or website to see the trailer and find out how you can help us complete our movie.
Thanks!

Damn, I love that picture! Too bad that Cobo will never again be the concert venue that it was in years past.
Back in the day, I saw Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band (1983), KISS (1976), Boston (1979) and Styx (1979). I moved away from Michigan in 1980 so the fun kinda stopped there.
I just so happened to be visiting family and friends in the the Spring of 1983 and Seger was about to play the first of 6 sold out shows (he broke all of the local records - even Elvis and the Stones - for ticket sales) at Cobo. I grabbed my step brother, my ex girlfriend and one of her friends and bought 4 scalped tickets for $35 a piece. Mind you that this was 1983 so $35 was the going rate for scalped tickets.
I still rate that show as my personal favorite. I'd never seen a Detroit crowd so well behaved. Seger owned the arena...and he still does.

Today, Cobo arena sadly looks more like this...

That picture just about tore my heart out when I first saw it. Please understand that Cobo Arena is an icon here in the Detroit area. Most people from this area who are my age will attest to the same.

Here's a video that shows the future of Cobo Hall and Cobo Arena, now known as Cobo Center. You'll find the future for the beloved Cobo Arena at the 1:40 mark.

When they mention the hydraulic lift stage, all I could envision was Peter Criss' drum kit rising toward the rafters back on the Destroyer tour in 1976.

Good stuff.

MP is is exactly right, this is a solicitation for funds nothing more even if it's a worthy cause.

My Cobo introduction

Wow, I was surprised to see the forum admin would edit my post about our movie.
Yes, we need some help getting the film done but that was not my primary reason for posting. On another forum I was fortunate enough to get some responses that contained rare personal photos from that 1975 Kiss show.
We are seeking info and archive photos to help tell the story.
That pic is my cousin and I posing with the original sign.
If all I wanted was to seek funding, I wouldn't have posted a personal photo.
We have huge love for that venue and it is sad that it's gone.
That's why we decided to make the movie, to share our stories and to tell the world about Cobo.
So, if you have a story or photos, post it for us to see.
If the admin still doesn't like this, no worries, I'll just move on.

We see so many people sign up, post a link and never contribute again that's why we have rules in place and enforce them.

When it comes to soliciting money...we have zero tolerance period, if you were here just to get input for your project that would be different.

Garrett is also right, if you were a long time member here that makes a difference, but I'll wager you have posted this exact same thing in every music forum to generate interest and revenue which I have seen done 100's of times over the years.
