Nirvana is the most important grunge band regardless of any circumstance. When it comes to the best though the award goes to Pearl Jam. They're the only grunge band that has stood tall for all of this time.

Such a shame to see what more work Cobain and Nirvana could have produced and still be producing hopefully if Kurt was still alive.

RIP Kurt :(

Culturally, Nirvana may have been in the right place and the right time but the fact remains that bands such as Pearl Jam and Soungarden and the Pixies et. al. were alive and kicking, and none of them managed to storm the mainstream to Nirvana's extent. These bands were already somewhat successful but it wasn't until Nirvana hit around the same time, that afterward these other bands became huge. I find it hard to imagine an argument for these other bands having been equally capable of achieving the specific success Nirvana did, because they were all around at the same time and receiving comparable promotion/support.

Musically/artistically... I just plain like things that are a little more on the simple side. And that's Nirvana in a nut shell. I've run all of Nirvana's material into the ground and as a result I don't tend to like them all that much anymore. But their style, their form, it's still immaculate. If there was a lost Nirvana album in the vaults that came out tomorrow I know it'd knock my socks off.

^^^I remember 107.7 as well. Also another station was KZOK 102.5 which played more the classic rock.

Some of the DJs from KISW left and formed a new station KXRX sometime in the late '80's which was a similar format though the station folded a few years later.

Another great program on KISW was "Electric Lunch", a noon hour show which played all the pysch from the late 60's and early '70's. I used to carry a "ghetto blaster" with me back in high school so we could listen to it. Good memories.:)

Yeah, I listen to 107.7 on occasion. I think I remember Electric Lunch vaguely, though I could easily be thinking of something else. I'm not too great at remember the programs the radio broad casted, but I remember hearing some older tunes that I hadn't heard otherwise. I just wish they put more radio stations on that focused on what the listener wants to hear, instead of what is popular. A lot of the stations I used to love are now stations I dislike strongly.

Happened with 99.7 The Blitz down in Columbus, Ohio. Used to play a lot of good heavy rock/grunge/a little alt./and some classic rock stuff.

Now it's basically all Metallica or Limb Bizkit.

hm I was a big fan of the Pixies in the late 80's so when a friend played me Nevrmind I was suppose to like it. I didn't although he also played me some Screaming Trees which I liked. Several months later I heard Pearl Jam's Ten and loved it. Shortly after I started liking Nirvana and Soundgarden. I don't consider the Melvins grunge? guess I'm wrong.

I give Nirvana the most important band award and Pearl Jam the most important to me and the longevity award.
