I'll try to add some further background information for the band Europe, and also give this thread a friendly
The Swedish hard rock band Europe was formed in 1979 and featured:
Joey Tempest – Vocals, Acoustic Guitars, Keyboards
John Norum – Guitars, Background Vocals
John Levén – Bass
Tony Reno – Drums
Joey Tempest
Europe has a nice blending of hard rock/metal guitar-driven axeworks of John Norum, and also excellent an rythym section, with some nice keyboards. Europe would later add a full time keyboard player to round out their sound, which was a nice compliment to the terrific guitar playing of John Norum, and helped to contribute to the successes of becoming more recognized worldwide, and more so with what probably is considered their most commercially successful, third album.
Europe released their first album in February 1983.
featuring some excellent songs, including...
In The Future To Come
Farewell
Seven Doors Hotel
and...
Memories
This is an excellent album, imo and one that I've enjoyed for many years!

I think alot of people forget about the older Europe, which is a big help in their credibility these days outside of America.
They were a really a great metal band in the beginning...they still remained one...but one has to remember their beginnings to appreciate their mainstream years as well as what they are doing these days.
^^^I'll just add some more info in addition to that which b.o.b. has posted!
Europe's second album "Wings Of Tomorrow" was released February 1984 and both continued along the lines of their first album and also had many excellent, hard rocking songs, too, imo! Although Wings Of Tomorrow may not have been quite as successful within the bands' homelands as the first was, it did show both some progressions, and more songwriting skills of John Norum with an instrumental and also an excellent collaboration with Marcel Jacob (ex Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force bassist) which would also continue with further collaborations when John Norum began his solo career.
I'll try to add some more info for the excellent album that followed Wings Of Tomorrow, and also give this thread a nice
The Final Countdown was released May 1986 and is easily Europe's biggest selling and also their most commerically successful album with John Norum. This album was also the bands breakthrough album in the US, which both got them more attention on the FM airwaves, and on MTV. (where I first heard two of their songs, Carrie and the title track of The Final Countdown)
By this time Europe had added two new band members; Mic Micaeli on keyboards and Ian Haugland on drums. Both are excellent and compliment both each other and the band greatly, imo! With the suggestion of Epic records American producer Kevin Elson was brought in for the recording of The Final Countdown, although originally the band had approached Scorpions producer Dieter Dirks and Bon Jovi producer Bruce Fairbairn, the band decided to go with Kevin Elson.
The Final Countdown album is an excellent album, with quite a lot of emphasis on keyboards, imo. Some fans may, or may not like the somewhat more noticeable leaning toward the keyboard-driven styles and songs, perhaps this may have contributed to the band wanting to go into a more popular, commercial type direction, opposed to the hard rock, guitar-driven song styles of John Norum, however the band and John Norum would part ways not too long after the release of The Final Countdown and subsequent tour, he would return almost 20 years later to both record new material with Europe and does also tour with the band, and does continue his own solo career, too.

Ahh good ol Europe. The above poster posted the video I wanted to post. The Final Countdown (live). I was deeply impressed at how well they can perform in live footage.
