What's your favorite Pink Floyd concert DVD?

Anyway there is another Floyd related DVD to check out. It's called A Technicolor Dream. It chronicles the underground music scene in late 1960's London and the concert that would become The 14-Hour Technicolor Dream at which Pink Floyd played on April 29th, 1967.

It might not make much sense if you aren't a hard core Floyd nut like I am, but it has some good interviews with Roger Waters and others.

I reccommend it.

Nothing can beat Pompeii. Performance is brilliant, tracklist is awesome and it's pre-DSOTM Floyds. What could you wish more?

I prefer post DSOTM myself, Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse are both excellent, even though Waters is no longer part of the band.

No surprise seeing I prefer the later albums of Pink Floyd to the early recordings by quite a margin.

There is a bootleg recording (Audio) of Floyd called "Animal Instincts". It is without a doubt the best l've heard from this tour and the sound quality is great..

Oh man, it's gotta be Live at Pompeii. That's the only one with any bonafide fire of fury, except for that early London stuff. Pulse and Delicate Sounds are washed up. I haven't listened to them since Floyd was all new and O.O to me. I mean, they're pretty good but it's just like, shit, listen to the albums. The differences are highly negligible.

^^I disagree AAG, Delicate and Pulse blow Pompeii out of the water, it's not even close. I even prefer the live version of the Wall to Pompeii, if you are a fan of Early Pink Floyd then I would suggest that video, if you are a fan of the later and greater Floyd either of the other two concerts are pearlers.

I will never understand the fans that heap praise on early Floyd, the albums that made them world famous and established their unique sound are from Meddle forward, at least that is my view.

Their unique sound came from trying to reinvent themselves after Syd, and also it was the end of the psychedelic underground in London. They could no longer play the whimsical pop that put them on the scene. They had to change and evolve.

That is why the period that contains Atom Heart Mother, More and Obscured By Clouds is so important. They would never have made albums like DSOTM and WYWH had it not been for constant experimentation and touring.

I like Pink Floyd a lot Architect, but I am also tired of the "Piper..." is the greatest album they ever recorded mantra that the elitists always go on and on about. Of course the early years were important as you said, but when David Gilmour replaced Syd, that is what set the stage for the growth of the band more than anything else. The haunting evocative soundscapes they created from Meddle forward dwarf all of their early work.

I have had this argument for years and years with a friend who is contrary for it's own sake at times, that is why I can't help posting my feelings about this topic.

Pompeii is a good DVD, don't want people to get the idea I think it's rubbish or anything, but Delicate and Pulse are just much better, sonically, technically, performance wise, no matter how I approach that comparison they always come out way ahead on my scale.

I agree with you, Piper is not the greatest album they ever made. It just may be the greatest psychedelic album made, but it definitley is not representative of their signature sound. I really don't even like Saucerful that much, actually I hated it for a while until I really started to get into Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother and worked my way back through their catalog!

I'm just sayin' you gotta know where you came from to know where you're going!
