After hearing "Hold on Tight" on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 Mighty 690 AM radio show back in late Summer 1981 while with family near Ventura, California, a U.S. Route 101 road trip to Santa Barbara's Mission when I was just 8 years old, Dad then bought me my very first Electric Light Orchestra LP from Tower Records, an audio cassette of ELO's then album, thus started the fandom 43 years ago.

So I'd highly recommend Time by ELO!

When David Bowie released his "Ashes to Ashes" music video it was considered as the most innovative to date at that time. But Electric Light Orchestra were largely regarded to have surpassed that with their music video for "Hold on Tight". At the time it was the most expensive ever made at around £40,000. - Source: UK Midlands Central TV News, August, 1981, thanks Ade

The first time that I recall hearing ELO or as they were then always called the Electric Light Orchestra was on the OGWT on BBC television performing 10538 Overture back in 1971 I believe. Roy Wood was in the band but the Move (band) was still active featuring both Jeff, Roy and Bev which was a bit strange. I actually went out to my local record shop and bought 10538 Overture on a 45 rpm single after seeing them perform on the OGWT

Yes...apparently accoding to this wiki piece there were some legal contract issues and direction changes.
Lynne was asked to join the Move before 1970 but didnt until later because he was still trying to make something of the Idle Race and then they became ELO which was Wood's idea actually. They were required to deliver an lp or 2 as Move before they became ELO.

On ELO's debut album No Answer from 1972 it says, "Move Enterprises, Ltd. presents the Services of the Electric Light Orchestra"

In fact, the Move's final album, Message from the Country, was recorded simultaneously with The Electric Light Orchestra.

It was a girlfriend who really introduced me to ELO.... she was nuts about them-we parted ways.... I kept the records.
Years later me & my shiny new Walkman used to cycle about the city to this(just about the best bike tune.) lifted from an equally great album.
Here is the News (long cut.)

This may be a false memory I bought 'Message From The Country' in a second hand store (pitts in Nottm)... Was the name Carlin Sugartown mentioned at all?
It's not on the cd or the other album version, was it a pseudonym for Carl Wayne?
Also several US news TV channels attempted to take ELO to court over Here Is The News (citing that the spoken news clips were theirs!) apparently Tandy and Lynne spent hours scripting and fitting in those snippets!
