Roger Taylor says it’s “quite possible” Queen will record new songs with singer Adam Lambert in the future.
The band has reconvened for two album projects since original singer Freddie Mercury died, 1995’s Made in Heaven and the 2014 compilation, Queen Forever – but that was only to update leftover material. (They also released an album with Paul Rodgers, Cosmos Rocks, in 2008.) “If we do anything in the future, I’d like it to be something new,” Taylor told Planet Rock. “I don’t know how new it would sound, but I think if [guitarist] Brian [May] could come up with a song or two which we felt, sort of, fitted, you know.”
Lambert has been performing with Queen, off and on, since their 2009 performance together on American Idol. They’ve just returned from a string of shows in the Far East, following European dates in 2012 and then the U.S. in 2014. “It’s great to know that there’s still a demand,” Taylor added. “And we do love playing with Adam Lambert – who is an incredible singer and a lovely man.”
Taylor and May earlier mentioned the possibility of going into the studio with Lambert back in 2014. “You never know,” May said back then. “You never know.”
May recently revealed that he’s been battling a “persistent illness,” however, and has canceled all of his remaining plans in 2016. “I have to get away and [prioritize] healing,” the guitarist said. “Sometimes there is no choice.”
