On Canvas is an Emmy-award winning music program broadcast to a couple million households in New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania on the local PBS affiliates. Back in June, they interviewed Peter Hammill and filmed Van der Graaf Generator in concert at the Sellersville Theater in Sellersville, PA. This segment of the show is set to air next week. Airing dates are:

Sunday, December 2 @ 4:30pm
*also* randomly throughout the weekend on their YArts channel.

The VdGG episode will also be posted online for fans all over the world to see on Friday, November 30 @ On Canvas | WHYY

Various promos will air during the week including TV, radio, Youtube and there will also be information on the 'On Canvas' Facebook and Twitter pages.

awesome thanks for the heads UP. I've seen VdGG and Peter Solo at NEARfests (SAD TO SEE IT GO). Fan of all the 70's albums both Peter Solo and VdGG and lots since.

PBS special now available for everyone to see @ On Canvas | WHYY

Great stuff. I especially like the end of the program where Hammill describes the long friendship between the three, and how baiting each other goes with the territory!

Wow, unfortunately I missed them on tv. I did see VDGG twice live so I'm very grateful for that since they rarely play in the US.

However, VDGG did not play at Nearfest in 08. That picture, if from Nearfest, was taken during Peter Hammill's solo performance that year. I saw him at the Sellersville theater that year but did not see his performance at Nearfest although I did speak to him briefly there since I did attend the pre show where he was also in attendance(probably to catch Fish-no pun intended ;)).

and....

VdGG will be performing a couple of long-form pieces at the core of their sets in their upcoming June dates.

"Flight", originally a PH solo/K group piece, has already been aired in North America and Japan last year. It's partly as a result of the reworking of this in the trio format that we've been tempted to go for something even more ambitious...or dangerous.

Our intention is to play "A Plague of LIghthouse-Keepers", from our 1971 album "Pawn Hearts" each night.

We will *not* be attempting to recreate the album version but hope to come up with a new, in-the-present approach to this important piece from our past, which has only been played live a handful of times before now.

It's a scary prospect, but very exciting!"

@Sox @Sweaty Love VDGG...just found the thread:oyea::bow::grinthumb
Also missed this thread. Agree that VDGG are an excellent band. Their music is so dark that I always put them in the same sort of genre as King Crimson. Their complex and often conflicting time signatures make for interesting listening. Great band :grinthumb
Unfortunately, because they're not readily available here, I don't have many of their albums (yet:tongue:), but I have a large collection of Peter Hammill albums, all of which I enjoyed.
