I live in Buffalo, NY
Graham Parker had a few outstanding albums in the '70s: Howlin' Wind, Heat Treatment and my favorite Squeezing Out Sparks.

Graham Parker is great. I had Sqeezing out Sparks after hearing Local Girls and liked the album a lot but over time and once cd's came out I kind of forgot the album but a few years back the wife and I went to see the movie This is 40 and in a way the movie evolved around Graham Parker who was being promoted by Paul Rudd and his small record label so Parker is in the movie a lot. Anyway, after seeing the movie I bought the 2009 CD version of Squeezing out Sparks and it also has a bonus live concert on it which is great!

Those live recordings are terrific! They included a great cover of I Want You Back and Mercury Poisoning. I don't always care for musicians ranting in song against their record company but Mercury Poisoning was a damn good one. Studio recordings of those songs were included with the original album on a 45.

I saw Parker and the Rumour when they were touring for SOS and the show was every bit as rousing as the live bonus on the album.

That sub-plot in This is 40 about Parker is very much about him being cast into the shadows. Rudd's character attempting to get his wife and kids into Parker's music made for a good scene.

Sparks was a very good band, for a couple of years at least. Sorta "power pop" before the phrase became better known, with catchy songs, quirky lyrics and those wacky operatic vocals. Kimono My House is a terrific album and I like Propaganda almost as much.

Yeah, The Sweet could really bring it. I put them alongside Slade, though maybe not as raucous. I'll add Little Willy and Teenage Rampage among their standout songs.

That tune rocks! The whole album is pretty good! :grinthumb

Half the band was made up by ex-Spirit members.
