Re: Early REO

On a different note, with many bands both showing interest in and also some that have gotten back togehter for "reunion" shows/tours, I've not heard any talk of any of the past members of R.E.O. trying to do that. Personally, I wouldn't be very interested unless Gary Richrath was included. He not only put a lot of himself into that band, but also into his guitar playing and live performances. I was very impressed with him before seeing him in concert, and was even more impressed afterwards. :geetar:

REO never officially broke up. A version with Kevin Cronin, Bruce Hall and sole founding member Neal Doughty continue to tour and record. Their latest studio record was released in 2007.

Re: Early REO

Craig, if I remember somewhat correctly, I believe there were two different releases of "Ridin' The Storm Out". One has Kevin Cronin doing the vocals, with the other one having Mike Murphy. I can't recall which one was released first, but I think it was the one with Mike Murphy, then the record company pulled them and rerecorded the vocals with Cronin. Or, it could be the other way around, after all these years I'm somewhat surprised that I remembered! :heheh:

The "Ridin' The Storm Out" CD that I have does have Mike Murphy.

Cronin did record vocals for most of the tracks on "Ridin'", but was fired before recording was completed. Murphy was brought in and re-recorded all the vocals. To my knowledge, the only official release of any of the Cronin tracks is the version of "Son of A Poor Man" on the Decade of Rock and Roll compilation.

Ah, thanks Tiny Tim! :grinthumb I wasn't too far off.

Some irony as well, with Cronin remaining in REO, but very few original members left. :wtf:

Re: Early REO

REO T.W.O. and You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish are my favorite REO albums. After that, I don't care much for anything else they put out.

One helluva live band though. Saw them numerous times in the 80's headlining the "Grand Slam Jams" at the stadium along with many State Fairs and local festivals.

REO has been making progress on a new album. It will be their first since 2007.

Read more Here.

I'm surprised I didn't think they were still active, but without Richrath on lead guitar they won't be quite as good, at least that's my take.

I did pick up an absolute Mint vinyl copy of Hi-Infidelity a few weeks ago, sounded excellent.

There is nothing wrong with having songs that are more mainstream. I think that is the problem today, everyone is striving for an underground sound.

Not all pop music sounds alike or mediocre.

@ LG...........Dave Amato is no slouch when it comes to lead guitar and his vocals aren't too bad either. Afterall, he did play with Uncle Ted, and no one complained ;)

I Needed to Fall

^^^That is from their 2007 album "Find Your Own Way Home", and it is very reminiscent of the old REO......

Didn't know he played with Uncle Ted. I seem to remember a schism in REO with Cronin being the center of attention, something about not allowing the band to use the name without him in it. Can't remember the details though, that's sort of why I'm surprised they are still releasing new albums.

I like hard rockin' early REO, but I love Hi Infidelity and consider it one of the top ten pop-rock classic albums of the 80's.
