Hi. The avatar I'm trying to upload is 160 x 104 pixels and 33.9KB, well within your guidelines. But it is not uploading or showing up. Please help!

Probably a stupid question, but are you sure you used the "Edit Avatar" function and not the "Edit Profile Picture" function?

Haha yea I tried Edit Avatar. It is simply not taking the upload. Very strange. Maybe I should try uploading to a site and then adding it via URL.

Is your file a JPEG? Do you have a programme that can convert to GIF? (For example Irfanview). It could help, worked for me once. If not, just use a link, as you suggested yourself.

It could be the site where you found your image wont allow the "hotlink".

It worked!! Was a simple browser issue. I was trying to upload from my work computer which only has IE. Uploaded at home on Firefox and it worked! Yay!

That is so strange......

I use IE and have never had an issue uploading avatars. I usually save the image to my Computer first, then upload from there.
