Audioslave is something you NEED to check out :)

Checked 'em out and they are gorgeous, but once again they are an amalgamation of two well known classic rock bands. Interesting, I was just listening to Soundgarden this morning. Rage Against The Machine won the UK No. 1 Christmas album this year after a Facebook campaign to knock down Simon Cowell.

:) Audioslave has a pretty special sound that doesn't relate much to the bands the members used to play with... so to me they are a new group.

I find it hard to find things I like which formed after 2000.I don't like most of the bands already mentioned. I'm currently listening to a modest mouse playlist on youtube and I really can't see anything special here.

Thanks for the Audioslave video. I've been meaning to check these out for a while because of Chris Cornell (soundgarden are great). Its a really good song.

The only bands I found that I like which have formed after 2000 are The Answer, Zombie Jihad and Black Keys. I'm sure there is more but I really don't like mainstream bands at the moment

I think this is great. I hate Simon Cowell. Well done to everyone who helped with this

Audioslave essentially is RATM with Chris Cornell replacing Zack de la Rocha. The sound is definitely better than Soundgarden. And yes, they were a separate entity, but the point is moot now because they no longer exist. What I meant was they sound more retro than 21st century.

I'm generally in agreement with LXA. I've tried very hard to keep an open mind to music this decade and I've purchased a representative sample at my favourite record shop of popular acts. I've found very few though that I like, those being the Strokes, Last Shadow Puppets, Arcade Fire and Les Breastfeeders. Most of the others, including big name acts such as Radiohead, Modest Mouse, Decemberists, Super Furry Animals, Tortoise, Mercury Rev, Wolf Parade, Vampire Weekend, etc. have left me wondering what all the fuss is about. Worse yet is the fact that current hit radio is dominated by music that is so egregiously bad that I listen to classic rock or oldies stations instead which means that I miss out on the occasional gem that hits the charts.

My offer still stands if anyone else wants to take it up as well :)

Hep - If you like The Strokes, you might like Razorlight, The Giveaways, Bloc Party and British India :D

I see you have all been busy, I feel there is always good music being made in every decade you just have to look for it.

However, if you are searching for something "Brand New", then it is extremely difficult to find a band that is unique. There is not that much new in music, just variations on a theme, so even if I find a band like "Wolfmother" for example, I don't care that they sound like they came right out of the late 60's early 70's, I like them and that is all that matters.

Well I'm pretty in tune with modern music so I can safely say that I don't much care for a lot of it, BUT can still find quite a bit of bands that like I still like. Some good, new hard rock acts that you must be overlooking LXA are The Darkness, Hot Leg (who is pretty much the continuation of The Darkness), Stone Gods (who are perhaps one of the most over looked hard rock bands of the decade if you ask me), Airbourne (basically AC/DC only faster, so a lot like their older stuff really), Andrew W.K. (specifically his first album), Jet (specifically their first album too), HURT (they're going to be a big deal one day. Count on it), EndeverafteR, The White Stripes, and many many more. Those are just hard rock bands that I know. I could list even more of other genres.

Here are some good 00's hard rock numbers:

I live in Buffalo, NY
I like a lot of stuff that's out there nowadays.

Ryan McGarvey: This guy's in his early 20's now & if you like Blues/Hardrock check him out

Dresden Dolls: their style is Punk Cabaret & I think they're a great duo of keyboard & drums. Their sound is really different & the songwriting is great

The Charms: Fun garage style rock. They had 5 releases since they began around 2003.
'Strange Magic' is definitely worth checking out. The band is currently repackaging themselves into a new band called the Jeddo Stars & a new album will be out soon

Giant Drag: Another duo led by distorted guitar riffs & strange lyrics by Annie Hardy

Sex & Patriotism: Kick Ass Hard Rock in the vein of AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, Zeppelin, Free, & the Rolling Stones. They've been around since 2004

Juliette Lewis: Yes, the actress! She's phenomenal hard edge rock meets punk. Check out her 'Four on the Floor' album featuring Dave Grohl

Joe Bonamassa: 32 years old. Another great guitarist who has released a string of 9 albums so far this millenium. Check out Sloe Gin

Hellcity 13: a cool 80's retro style with their own modern twist if you like: Motley Crue, Hanoi Rocks, Dogs D’Amour, Guns & Roses, Billy Idol, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Sisters Of Mercy, Lords of the New Church…etc then you'll like Hellcity 13
