Semblanzas de un Río - David Peña Dorantes

Rima I - Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer

suspiros y risas, colores y notas.

Pero en vano es luchar; que no hay cifra
capaz de encerrarlo, y apenas, ¡oh hermosa!
Si, teniendo en mis manos las tuyas,
pudiera, al oído, cantártelo a solas.

Although I consider Al Di Meola to be one of the guitar heroes (Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Vinnie Moore, B.B.King, Hendrix, etc) he still has really intense flamenco songs.

Al Di Meola - Mediterranean Sundance

Also Vinnie Moore's "The maze" album has a nice flamenco song:

Vinnie Moore - Never Been to Barcelona

Todo es de Color - Triana

Qué bonita es la primavera,
Qué bonita es la primavera
cuando llega.

El clavel que tienes en tu ventana,
me hace recordar el barrio de Triana,

wowwwwww. i absolutely LOVE this type of music. i've only ever heard scattered bits and pieces, either rockers (like steve howe) imitating the style~~lindsey buckingham does it, too~~or clips from movies, that kinda thing. it's wonderful to be able to hear examples of the real thing. i consider it a super groovy education, i dew. mwhaha. i could have this stuff on a mix CD and play it all day. i aint kiddin.

my brother played gweetar, mainly classical, but he was all over the board in what he luvved... blues, ragtime, and imitations of that flamenco styling. (he could play 'mood for a day' note for note.) he would sooo adore this stuff. just a quick rundown of what i've heard so far (the clips up til the documentary, i'll come back to that...)

Paco de Lucia - Entre dos aguas
fantastic gweetar. i just luvvvv that kinda gweetar, seriously. i also have a percussive fetish. bongos, for example. so much so, that i am teased on other boards about it. heh.

Vicente Amigo - Tres Notas Para Decir Te Quiero
fantastic gweetar again, again percussive coolness. this is probably the closest to how my brother would play his version of spanish gweetar. ya.

David Peña Dorantes - Orobroy
luvv that piano, incredible. the strings, very unexpected. dramatic but beautiful

Sevillanas a dos Guitarras - Paco de Lucía & Manolo Sanlúcar...
the vid was taken down off youtube for multiple infringement. sounds kinda kinky. but it's not. mwhaha

Flamenco Guitar - Sabicas - Fantasia
wowwwwww. impressive guit, those flourishy fluttering moments, incredible

Sabicas - Bronce Gitano
blocked in my country. those EMI bastards. but if it sounds anything like fantasia, i luvv it. mwhahaha

Sabicas "Alegrias"
his fluttering, fluid, fast fingers just slay me. ya ya. this might be my fave track of all

Sabicas- Arabian dance
so cool to see the earlier one... luvv those middle eastern flourishes

Guadalquivir - Sabicas
yet again, so impressive guit work, so unique, luvv all the diff movements and mini-modes inside these songs

MANOLO SANLUCAR - MAESTRANZA (TAUROMAGIA) / TAUROMAQUIA
luvluvluv it. i luv the multi guits, percussion. all done so smoothly. these guys are tight.

Manolo Sanlúcar - Oración
gorgeous guit. that whole nylon stringed classical sound my bro got on his guit, just so resonant. this track is beeyutiful

CABALLO NEGRO - Manolo Sanlucar
luv the uptempo flair here, that funkayyy feel

as i said above, my brother would luvvvv this music so very much. he was a huge musical influence on me, so it's not all that surprising that we would agree on this music, hee hee. my brother is no longer in planet-walking form~~he has gone to the great gig in the sky~~but i like to think he's hearing this stuff anyway. and smiling. ;>

maybe you could translate the titles for me?

i will come back to the documentary stuff and the tracks beyond that later.. thanks for the turnon.

p.s. yes, sophia rules.

Thank you so much for your beautiful words! I really appreciate it! I'm so glad to have known you. You are such a kind girl and a true music lover.

Here are the translations. I tried my best! Oh and they are in order.

-

Between Two Waters - Entre Dos Aguas

Three Music Notes To Say I Love You - Tres Notas Para Decir Te Quiero

Reflection - Orobroy

And these are the lyrics, they are singing in Caló language (This language is spoken by Spanish Romani people)

"When I hear the old voice of my ancestors that sings and cries remembering past centuries of horror, I feel God blessing my soul and in this world I'm going to plant roses instead of pain."

Sevillanas with Two Guitars - Sevillanas a Dos Guitarras

(I hope this video works!)

Fantasy - Sabicas

Gypsy Brass (Soleares) - Sabicas

Alegrías - Sabicas (The word means Joy but this is referred to a flamenco palo (style), which has a rhythm consisting of 12 beats. It is similar to Soleares.)

Arabian Dance - Sabicas

Guadalquivir - Sabicas (Guadalquivir is the name of the most famous Andalusian river)

Maestranza - Manolo Sanlúcar (La Maestranza is the name of the most important bullring in Andalusia)

Prayer - Manolo Sanlúcar

Black Horse - Manolo Sanlúcar

no, thank YOU for the great musical turn-on. really. i am a gweetar addict. the more fantastic gweetar i can find on the planet, the happier i am. it's true.

and thanks for the translations. sometimes i can kinda figure em out (dos aguas = two waters... i guessed that oracion might be like the english word, orison, a morning prayer). other times, i am sooo off it's not even funny. mwhaha. i had NO idea caballo meant horse. i thought it might be like cabal, people plotting in secret. hee heee. which would change the feel entirely. ahem.

oh, and this bit...

"When I hear the old voice of my ancestors that sings and cries remembering past centuries of horror, I feel God blessing my soul and in this world I'm going to plant roses instead of pain."

... is great. i personally believe it is the only way to live life, even if the pain is much, much closer than centuries away in the past. however painful or hard one's life may be~~and i think i've seen my share~~planting roses, enjoying them, seeking them out elsewhere, those things make the difference. a matter of perspective. happiness is in the choosing to do that, deliberately.

Sevillanas with Two Guitars - Sevillanas a Dos Guitarras

it worked just fine. ya ya. fantastic. watching those guys play together is a true pleasure. i WISH i could play like that. oooof.

p.s. i meant what i said earlier... i'll pick back up from the documentary on when i have more time. ::smack::
