Also a consideration, but for that time period I highly preferred Fiona Apple, Lisa Loeb, Sarah McLachlan & even Jewel. Don't forget Natalie Merchant either because she's awesome!

I'm a big Jewel fan as well and Natalie Merchant had some great tracks on her first two solo albums!

^ It's a shame now because she's one of those great artists that was loved & now lost. Her musical talent is worth much more than spending a short time listening to only her popular "hits." She has a lot of depth to her voice & soul.
