Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company are both celebrating 40 years in 2013, and they’ve teamed up to take a co-headling tour across America. The 40 Tour will begin on June 20 in Auburn, Wash. and travel east before wrapping up on July 27 in Bethel, N.Y.
There are 12 dates in total, including stops in Houston, Charlotte, N.C. and Cincinnati Lynyrd Skynyrd released their debut album on Aug. 13, 1973, while Bad Company formed the same year. They’ve never toured together, although Paul Rodgers has toured with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
“The Skynyrds and I go back to the 70′s and the days and nights at the Hyatt House on Sunset in L.A. aka the Riot House,” Rodgers shares in a press release. ”In the 90′s the band introduced me to my wife Cynthia, and that’s why I am so damned happy and healthy these years.”
Johnny Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd expressed similar admiration for Bad Company, adding that Rodgers is one of his favorite rock singers. Both bands have additional dates planned for spring and summer.
Black Stone Cherry will open 11 of the 12 shows. Ticket details were not included in the press release, and don’t appear on either band’s website.
