Bill Wyman - Bill Wyman wanted proper Rolling Stones reunion
23 February 2013

The Rolling Stones' former bassist Bill Wyman was disappointed to only return for two songs during the band's commemorative London shows last November.

Bill Wyman wanted proper Rolling Stones reunion

Bill Wyman was ''disappointed'' with his role in the Rolling Stones' 50th anniversary.

The group's former bassist accompanied the band on two tracks, 'Honky Tonk Women' and 'It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)' , at their commemorative London shows last November, and while he enjoyed the brief stint, he admits he thought his return would be on a much bigger scale.

He told The Times newspaper: ''It was fun in a way...

''In December 2011 Keith Richards called and said, 'Come on mate, why don't you have a jam with us?' Then they asked if I'd be interested in getting involved in the band for special occasions.

''I thought I would get quite heavily involved, so when they said they only wanted me to do two songs I was a bit disappointed.

''I only had one rehearsal and no sound-check so I just winged it. It was great, but I didn't want to go to America for two songs. I think they understood. Well, Charlie Watts did!''

The 76-year-old rocker - who quit the group in 1996 - also admitted he used to get ''bored to death'' when on the road with the 'Brown Sugar' hitmakers.

He said: ''You have two days of flying in a plane to the town, getting off at the airport, limousines, the hotel, you've got kids on the landing so you can't leave your room, and you sit around watching TV because that's all there is to do. I used to take photos of the rooms.

''You do the gig and for two hours on stage it's fantastic, but then you go back to the hotel and you're bored to death. You come down in the morning and the whole thing happens all over again.''

Sounds to me like the perfect reason to quit.

if only more 'rock stars' quit for the same reasons, rather than getting on TV and doing interviews with radio stations talking about how lonely it is at the top, and how miserable they are, etc etc etc (no names mentioned). If you don't like it, then QUIT!

As for Wyman's comments about a "proper reunion", well, that leads back to the fact that he DID in fact quit the band and shouldn't expect anything more than what he got. *shrug*

Reminds me of a comment Pete Townshend made decades ago while visiting Joe Walsh in California.

"Exquisitely Bored".

I am surprised in a way because there are so many other things you can do now besides watching TV that if you get bored that's your own fault. I can see musicians with young kids not wanting to tour, that has happened many times over the years. Once you have a family of your own, your priorities usually change and being a Dad supercedes being a rock star.

I would like to see Bill in more Stones shows, but as Snoopy said he walked away years ago and the bass player they have now is part of the band.

Get together and rehearse with Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman, then do a DVD of a full set at Wembley or a smaller club and leave it at that.

Shouldn't have quit the band. He does more touring now with the rhythm kings than he would if he was still a Stone.

There's a great quote by Keith regarding Bill. Something along the lines of "the only way someone should leave the Stones is in a box."

I didn't know a black man was playing bass for The Rolling Stones. It just doesn't seem right, but I have no problem with it.
