It was December 8, 1980.......Mark David Chapman had just had an album autographed earlier and placed that album on a planter outside the Lennon's Manhattan apartment, and yelled "Mr. Lennon" as John and Yoko walked to their home. Chapman then picked up a .38 and fired 5 shots into John Lennon's back. John staggered into the building saying "I'm Shot", while Yoko called for help. Two police cars arrived and they rushed John to Roosevelt Hospital. John died in transit. Chapman made no attempt to run away, but sat down with a copy of "Catcher in the Rye" and began reading.
