I think its pointless for anyone to spend time on 'hating' music.

the thread is popular artists you can't stand... I could go into why I think they are bad people but it's subject matter that is against the rules and it's just my opinion. I am not saying no one can listen to them or you are bad for listening to them, I just hate them for my own reasons. I don't hate all electronic music, but it's one of my least favorite genres.

As far as Coldplay, I don't like or dislike them. I don't know a single song, and probably wouldn't kniow it if I were listening to them right now.

It makes no sense to me that everytime I read these posts it's always I hate coldplay. Are you really sure you do or is it just the cool thing to say.

Same could be said for many who hate on Metallica. Seems when it comes to popular artists or bands its especially 'cool' to hate on them simply because they didn't write the same albums after And Justice For All and it seems cool to hate on them because of the period where they changed their look and when Lars did over Napster. You get all sorts of hate bandwagons in every genre. Oh yeah and the most ridiculous bandwagon of all, people who use the term sellout because the band/artist didn't make the same albums they wanted to hear.

My take on artists I dislike is purely that I never simply dislike because its cool, I give valid reasons to why I don't like a band such as Coldplay, like the music and vocals just don't hit home for me but more power to those who love it. I don't hate them, I just dislike that particular music, not for me. I generally find its quite a waste of time to harp on about artists I don't like, I just worry about music I do like. The other thing I do not get is why people care so much about the 'hate' an artist of theirs gets, you like the music so who gives a **** what others think?

How can it be "cool" to hate coldplay? maybe if one is 12 yrs old, it's cool to hate something?



Since that isn't the majority of our crowd here, perhaps if you keep seeing threads that say "I hate coldplay" it's becuse they really (*.. cough / ahem ..*) just aren't that good.

They've done pretty well for themselves, winning 7 Grammys and selling over 55 million albums. Wait, I forgot on this forum everyone slams the Grammys and downplays any band after 1989 so I won't waste my time here.

Music is so open to interpretation that I don't understand why anyone says a band or artist "sucks" anyway. You can not care for certain elements of their music, but just saying something "sucks" is pretty lame brained in my opinion, so it doesn't really bother me when someone says that about an artist I'm crazy for. I mean look at Madonna, who is one of the top-selling artists of all time. People say she "sucks" but there's a reason for all of that success. Most people just don't like how she presents herself and I agree with that.

It's not just how she presents herself. Hell, in the 80s when she first came out I thought sluts were cool. If anything that image was the only thing that attracted me. But saccharine pop is saccharine pop. She almost consistently spews out least common denominator drek and that stuff has no appeal to me.

A few things:

1) Britney Spears has been nominated for 8 Grammys and has sold 82 million albums. She has also been nominated for 19 Billboard awards, winning almost half of those.

2) Led Zeppelin was nominated for 1 grammy, ever. "Best new artist 1970"

3) Black Sabbath was FIRST nominated for a grammy in 2000, winning it for Paranoid. Wuh? Only 30 years late on this one.

4) Queen was never nominated for a Grammy

5) Are we really going to use the Grammys as a proving ground for who does and doesn't suck? Milli Vanilli anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

on the flip side, going into a "artists you can't stand thread" and complaining about what you see is also pretty lame brained. JM2CW
