Probably Dire Straits.

I loved the eponymous first album and "Communique" probably in equal measure - but then I found myself liking each subsequent album less and less, to the point where I'm completely indifferent about most of "Brothers In Arms" and dislike "On Every Street" intensely.

I just didn't like the progression of the band. Yes they became more slick but they progressively lost their heart. One of my favourite gigs was the original line-up at Lewisham Odeon in December 1979, they never captured that magic again for me.

^^I love their Debut myself Marbles, but I also really enjoyed "Making Movies", for some reason that album just grew and grew on me over the years.

I didn't follow them after "Brother's In Arms".

Oh, for me Guns'N Roses.
I love Appetite For Destruction, the entire album.

Agreed on this one. That is one of the strongest albums I've ever heard and they never had a chance to best it.

At the Lewisham gig that I mentioned they did a couple of early versions of songs that ultimately ended up on the "Making Movies" album the following year. One of these was "Making Movies" itself, which by the time of recording had evolved into "Skateaway". Not that I can remember a thing about it now!

I'm a HUGE Mark Knopfler fan and think he's produced more great music than almost anyone around, his solo stuff to me is different class, but Dire Straits never bettered their debut album, so I agree.

Best ever debut album for me was probably the first Doors album, still one of the greatest albums of all time.
