The way the hall decides what goes in is dumb. look into that. I could argue, however, that some of these were inserted into mainstream music charts prematurely and their new works were greatly effected by that fact (whether for bettor or worse) KISS was innovative, journey pioneered the pop rock movement of the mid 80s, and Judas (along with led zep) popularized and made a viable market for for the 80s hard rock / "heavy" metal of the 80s (misfits, maiden, metallica, motorhead, quiet riot, etc). travesty they havent been inducted.
for the most part, I agree with your thoughts on this ... however ...
Iron Maiden was just fking epic.. but they
arent legendary. they arent something people will talk about in 50 years, they werent game changers, and i think that what the hall is going for.
just my opinion.
i couldn't disagree more. I'm hardly the world's biggest Maiden fan, but I would bet a slew of money that you'd be hard pressed to find a credible list of greatest metal acts of all time that doesn't have Iron Maiden (at the very least) in the Top 10 best metal bands of all time. They were game changers in the 80's. They took what was built in the 70's and kicked it in the ass and injected it with steroids.
Every band that Matt Sorum listed is deserving of being in the HALL by the definition that most rock fans have. I've touched on my next thoughts in other threads, but I'll do it here as well. Metallica is well deserving of being in the HoF, however they should NOT be in before the likes of Judas Priest or Iron Maiden. Sabbath should have been in on the first available ballot but rather had to wait for I think 11 years. Metallica had to wait for 1 year.
Kiss was on the ballot once, then left off. RHCP was on the same ballot that Kiss was on and were also dropped off for 2 years, then they got back on and got in. Guns n Roses gets in on their first ballot yet Deep Purple has yet to ever even be nominated. The list of wrongs is so long and goes so deep.
The entire process is busted, broken and probably beyond repair. Guns N Roses
Anyway, you can have your opinion of Maiden and while I agree that they've had an epic career, I also can't agree with the comment about people not knowing them in 50 years. It's been 32 years since their first album came out and they are still touring and filling stadiums around the world. They aren't on the club tour. They aren't doing the county fair circuit. They are still hard and heavy and will be remembered in heavy metal circles for ages, as they should be.
