Since I started this thread, my metal library (and tastes) have expanded exponentially. Now I feel I should revise my old list:

03. Queensryche ~ Operation: Mindcrime
04. Judas Priest ~ Screaming For Vengeance
05. Dio ~ Holy Diver
06. Black Sabbath ~ Master of Reality
07. King Diamond ~ Abigail
08. Savatage ~ Hall of the Mountain King
09. Hammerfall ~ Legacy of Kings
10. Saxon ~ Wheels of Steel

It looks like everyone has their own definition of a "metal" band or album.

Yeah, the number of 'sub-genres' that metal has is mind boggling - I actually looked into it one time recently to find out what 'sub-genre' my two favourite 'metal' bands were in, because I got so confused by it all that I ended up thinking that maybe my two favourites of this variety (KoRn and Slipknot) aren't any kind of metal at all. I discovered that there are such things as Viking Metal, Cello Metal, Funeral Doom Metal, Folk Metal, Celtic Metal, Neo Classical Metal, and Christian Metal. I think it said there were over 50 different kinds of metal in all.

Anyway! ....here, quite randomly 10 favourites...

1. All Hope is Gone - Slipknot
2. Black Album - Metallica
3. Take a Look in the Mirror - Korn
4. The Golden Age of Grotesque - Marilyn Manson
5. Volume 4 - Black Sabbath
6. Brave New World - Iron Maiden
7. The Path of Totality - Korn
8. Lovedrive - The Scorpions
9. Piledriver - Status Quo
10. Bandolier - Budgie

I'm sure somebody is going to tell me that half of these aren't even metal, which is fine by me, in which case we can maybe have another new sub-genre and call it 'Sound Hasn't a Clue What the Crap He's Talking About Metal'

^^ The only one I wouldn't call metal on that list is Status Quo, not really heavy enough to be metal. Korn is debatable too.

My Top 10 doesn't change all that much except maybe make itself a top 15 list.
As metal as any list I make will ever be.
1. Megadeth Rust In Peace - Perfect album, absolutely nothing can be faulted from it.
2. Metallica Ride The Lightning - Perfect album again, all the songs are brilliant.
3. Morbid Angel Blessed Are the Sick - Long live classic Morbid Angel.
4. Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance - Best of their 80s stuff but my favourite overall.
5. Nightwish Once - Brilliant album front to back, love Tarja Turunens voice.
6. Pantera Vulgar Display of Power - Hard to have a favourite but this is the album I love the most.
7. Blind Guardian Nightfall in Middle Earth - Fantastic power metal album this one.
8. Children of Bodom Follow the Reaper - Tinges of black metal influence, fantastic album by Bodom.
9. Vader The Ultimate Incantation - Brilliant debut from this Polish Death Metal band.
10. Cannibal Corpse Gallery of Suicide - Consistent band, this album is my overall favourite. Brilliant riffing.
