I guess you could say their "rock star" lifestyle of excess and and debauchery contrasted with their ideals about keeping their music simple and not based on singles and keeping a low profile in that respect, but that's a topic for another day. ;)
Aaahhh, the groupies and their personal plane? The alledged occult dabblings? Their heavy handed approach towards agents and promoters? Led-Zeppelin cultivated that mystique which is as good as it gets. It's all word of mouth. Stephen Davis certainly didn't help either. All of that without being the weekly headliners on Top Of The Pops or Kasey Casem's Top Forty? You do bring up a good point but I still don't think they got as much press as The Who and Stones did. They didn't even hire a proper PR agent until 1973.

It is all word of mouth and though we don't know and probably never will know the specifics, a lot of groupies, roadies, journalists, etc. have validated the widely known fact that they were about as wild as it got, especially in their earlier days when they were sowing their wild oats.

Anyway, been listening to this one quite a bit. Fits my mood right now and I've always appreciated that it's a little scandalous too. ;)

I'm ashamed to say I'm not a huge fan of bootlegs, but have decided to purchase as many Zep bootlegs as I can. I need some good recommendations if any of you know any.

If it helps to soothe your ego, my first album was Coda, :oyea:

To this day I still like Poor Tom and Bonzo's Montreux ,songs that don't get much respect from Zep lovers. The album was produced by Page, and if you have ever listened to it in it's entirety, it sounds like he mixed the drums heavy.

^^^ Well if you think about it Phil, you could only go up from there. What an incredible music journey that must have been for you. ;)

Yep. The thing that cracks me up, is the mythology around the band. It is almost on even keel with the Nazi Occult theorists. Ya got everything from the Page Occult dabbling to the mud shark episodes.

It definitely adds to their mystique Phil and I really believe it's peaked curiosity and gained them a lot of fans simply from the stories. :)

:heheh:

It's a good read regardless! I recommend When Giants Walked the Earth. More in-depth and provides a TON of background information on the boys of the band and Peter Grant.
