Chick Corea Elektrik Band, Al Di-Mieola material with electric guitar (he has a lot of acoustic material), Jean Luc Ponty, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck (also with Jan Hammer), Return to Forever (which is made up of some of the above artists), Miles Davis (Bitches Brew album), Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Pat Metheny... and many more. I've been a big fan of this style (fusion) for years. Check this Wiki article out Jazz fusion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frank Gambale is absolutely wonderful guitar player, who mixes rock guitar playing/tone with jazz influences :)

I just recently started listening to jazz fusion stuff, but i'm not into all the free form noodling where each instrument is doing it's own thing. I like stuff with more song structures.

Any recommendations ? :)

Birds Of Fire - Mahivshnu Orchestra
Crossings - Herbie Hancock
Caravanserai - Santana
Romantic Warrior - Return To Forever
Hot Rats - Frank Zappa
Unorthodox Behaviour - Brand X
What If - Dixie Dregs
Black Market - Weather Report
Cross-Collateral - Passport
Out Of The Woods - Oregon
The Way Up - Pat Metheny
The Rite Of Strings - Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola & Jean-Luc Ponty
Elegant Gypsy - Al Di Meola
Mystical Adventures - Jean-Luc Ponty
Spectrum - Billy Cobham

Jazz-fusion can encompass so many different styles and structures, even metal. I think (hope) these suggestions are what you are looking for as IMO these aren't "noodling" as in the form of avant-garde, free-form, improvisitional and experimental.

Thanks! :) I'll check it all out. Of the ones mentioned I enjoy Brand X the most, and some Weather Report. I haven't heard of Passport, Oregon or Billy Cobham.

Well there has been some great bands mentioned here, many of which I have purchased, I do like the Canterbury sound in particular, I love Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, picked a load of great stuff up for £3 a piece which is pretty good going:)
