Two heavyweight metal acts of the 80's matching up head to head with their 1988 releases, Iron Maiden's 7th release (thus the catchy title) and Metallica's 4th outting and first with new band member Jason Newstead following the tragic death of Cliff Burton (via terrible bus accident in Sweden)

Iron Maiden wins here for me, production was awesome, And Justice I loved but the production was disgraceful surrounding the bass particularly.

Iron Maiden easily in this one. Also agree with RIff's comment about the terrible quality of Metallica's recording, done purposely to humiliate Jason Newstead from what I've read.:nw:

Yeah, it was considered a 'hazing' of some sort. I'm not sure what Kirk thought about it, but I know that Lars and James thought it was funny as shit

Seriously, I figured that Maiden would take this one, but I didn't think it would be a blowout/massacre.

Giving my vote to Metallica (I would have even without the blowout). AJFA, to me, was like the second coming of the Heavy Metal Bible (the first being Sabbath's Paranoid). Aside from lack of heavy bass guitar, the album is heavy as hell. From start to finish, I think this is one of the best metal albums of all time. Probably the best drumming that Lars ever did. Deep/dark themes. It impressed the hell out of me the first time I heard it and to this day, I still praise the hell out of it.
