BEACH BOYS WILL MARK 50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW CD
Brought To You By VH1’s Dave Basner

There have been reports that The Beach Boys will mark their 50th anniversary with a new album but Brian Wilson said he wouldn’t be a part of it. Now, however, Mike Love tells Billboard that Brian has written some songs for it and that he’s written some as well and they’re “talking very seriously about getting together and co-writing and doing some new music together.” Mike said it looks like that will happen in the fall and that “there’s definitely more than a possibility” that he, Brian, Bruce Johnston and Al Jardine will perform together live as well.

I love the Beach Boys and I saw them live once (their first tour after losing Dennis). At this point, without Dennis or Carl, and with the surviving members at each others throats most of the time, maybe they should just let this go by. Lord knows the world doesn't need another B.B. best-of, but trying to force a reunion now seems a bit dodgy to me.

Well I guess if The Who can still do it as a duo, four Beach Boys isn't such a bad thing.

I do think one final album with Brian on board would be a much better way to go out than with that "Summer In Paradise" bomb from 1992. If Brian and Mike Love can actually keep from strangling themselves long enough to record a decent anniversary album, it might be a nice gift to fans and a nice way to say farewell.

I was never a big Beach Boys fan, but there are a few songs I like (like Sail On Sailor, Don't Worry Baby).

As long as they don't tarnish their legacy. If it's not even good enough to put out, then maybe it's best they don't. But if it's solid stuff, then that would be pretty cool. I'd see them live as well.

TBH all I can say is . There never was much rock in their roll and I don't see it happening now.
