Re: The "Official" Queen Thread

Freddie Mercury's final recorded interview circa 1988. He discusses the "Barcelona" album (which I simply adore) and other things.

and the single that he discussed in the interview that preceded "Barcelona"...

There was a great story regarding Rob Halford and Mercury. Halford feeling brash challenged Mercury to a motorbike race. Mercury accepted but said that Halford has to dance with a ballet troupe in return. Halford quickly reneged.

Queen should release "Live In Rio!" on DVD and Blu Ray...

I can't say that I was really impressed with "The Cosmos Rock" myself, whobeatle. The songwriting didn't really blow me away at all

I'm not surprised. May and Taylor used to be good songwriters, but the only songwriting that ever really blew me away was Freddie's.

That's a great story. :heheh:

I like a whole lot of Brian and Roger's song (Roger actually has some really great songs in his solo career that not a lot of people have heard) but I think things didn't work with them and Paul was flat out lack of chemistry. I mean, Paul is singer that has worked with the blues for so much of his career and the blues is something that Queen has seemed to intentionally steered clear of in nearly all ways.

Re: The "Official" Queen Thread

I have to add that Queen is made up of really intelligent cats. May was into astrophysics, Deacon was into electronics, Taylor was in dentistry [?] and Mercury...fashion design. May and his father designed his signature guitar off parts of a fireplace and some wood.

There was a great TV special about Mercury the other day on the Ovation channel. One of these days they will rerun it again and I will have to commit it to disc. Bits about his childhood, his "wife" Mary Austin and the lifestyle he reveled in.

I have the unofficial bio of the band "Queen: As It Began" Highly recommend read.

Anyone still own the "nude" poster from the Jazz LP? I do... :D

^Yep... :) Brought it to school one day and nearly ended up in the principal's office. Aaahhh, those were the days! LOL!

Cos...what are your thoughts on Sasha Baron Cohen playing the lead role in the upcoming Mercury biopic? May supposedly endorsed it. Oh and I heard that Johnny Depp was even rumored to play it too.

I'm actually quite fond of the idea of Sasha playing Freddie. He is always very committed to the roles and he does bear a pretty close resemblance to Freddie. As much as I like Johnny Depp I think Sasha was perhaps the best possible choice they could have made for the role. :grinthumb

Re: The "Official" Queen Thread

Big Queen fan here. When I was a kid I had friends who had "News Of The World", Night At The Opera", and "Jazz" and for my 12th birthday I got "Live Killers". "The Game" and "Greatest Hits" were soon to follow and by the time I was in my mid teens I had owned or heard alot of everything from '75 up to '86. But other than the hits I hadnt heard the first 3 albums as a whole until about 4 years ago. I love the old stuff, very progressive and fresh, like nothing else that was out at the time.

Queen are legends!
