Re: Ride The Lightning -Metallica

To me this is Metallicas finest hour LG . Some of the others are classics....but if I had to rate some of their later albums....they would be lucky to get 5/6 out of ten.:uh: Its only my opinion....Id give it 10 out of 10 just for the track "Creeping death" alone :grinthumb

I agree, their later albums like the Reloads and St Angers Reload Id give about 5 or 6, St Anger deserves a 2 or 3.
I agree with LG that production on Kill Em All and the 2 albums after it could have had a bit better production.

Re: Ride The Lightning -Metallica

Some great comments here and a good review fireandwater, I have the album and I have to say it is a wonderful album and typical of the time, it is one of my favourite Metallica albums (I have them all) I would give it a high score (10/10) maybe not for the production side of things but for the raw power it delivers.

It really is about time they remixer and remastered all the early Metallica albums as in my opinion they could do with a crisper, louder sound, if you know what I mean. I think that a good music system does highlight the highs and lows of an album.

For me the earlier albums are not loud enough but are brilliant albums, if you listen to Megadeth now they have been remastered you can tell the difference straight away. As I was saying to LOU earlier, when we went to see them a number of years ago they sounded fantastic, however when they finished Lars said thanks it wasn't me that f#@ked up. He obviously heard something that we could not, when you listen to an album on your stereo at home you can tell straight away if the sound is not right or the guitars are quiet or the vocals are distant even with a metal album.

Everyone will have a different opinion, mine is that I cannot wait till they remaster and remix all the earlier albums, I will buy them instantly.

Hope you understand what I am trying to say, not good with words really :)

^^I get what you mean Sweaty...in Metallica's case a total remaster of their early catalog would be nice.

I think I'll sniff around and see if the SHM versions are noticeably better than our releases...:hm:

That would be good, I think that now most of the big record distributors have merged into joint ventures or something like that, they are working on remastering loads and you can see them coming out now and cheaper.

Don't think Metallica's will be cheap though :)

I'll check this one out and see if it's better than the old version.

Yes it's a unique kind of CD only the Japanese make, people are split on whether they are a big improvement or not. I've got some that are better than regular pressings and others that seem to just be louder...and in this case Metallica was never known for great quality work in the studio, until Bob Rock(Love him or hate him Metallica's Black album has outsold the rest of their catalog combined...of course I might be exaggerating just a little, Tray will know.) entered the picture.

I'll play the SHM one in a few minutes Sweaty.

That could be interesting, don't really want to pay import prices, I will wait a little longer for the release over here, the black album was a major improvement in sound for them without a doubt. All the later albums sound more lively, fresh and loud like they are supposed to.
