trying to stick to bands you don't hear on the radio today or in the 70's


Here is one you might have to take off the forgotton list the hipsters seem to like Fred Frith:
I heard this last nite in some bar in Williamsburg took me all night to remember it.

The best bands that come to mind are Budgie,Max webster and also lucifers friend.Also Radio birdman from Australia.

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. This Time It's For Real and Hearts of Stone were two of the best albums of the '70's imho.

Oh yeah. I forgot Starz. Their first 2 albums were killer.

I'm not sure if they have been mentioned yet, but many people don't know about Zebra.
I believe they don't have many songs but good anyways. I guess, not really forgotten just never made it big, sadly.

I wouldn't quite say they're completely "unknown" as such (Since a few of their members went to join quite notable bands), but Welsh rockers Lone Star should get a mention here. Led by axeman Paul "Tonka" Chapman, who'd replace Gary Moore in Skid Row AND Mental Mickey Schenker in UFO, they produced two excellent studio albums (An unreleased third album has been released in demo form), the first with vocalist Kenny Driscoll, who'd later briely front Gary Moore's band in the early 80s and the second with Tommy Bolin-lookalike John Sloman (Who was touted as the new Robert Plant in the late 70s, but sounds more like Glenn Hughes crossed with Geddy Lee/Burke Shelley),who would briefly join Uriah Heep, UFO and like Driscoll, Gary Moore's band.
