I have a pretty much live and let live attitude but that music with flashing lights and electronic pulses they used to play in night clubs .. like a torture proceedure.. ten minutes of that and I would confess to anything I reckon.

:lmao:

Sox, I remember the torture myself. I couldn't take it. Just brutal. I would always leave my friends behind and go to "my" rocker night club.

Cannibal corpse utilizes screaming in their songs. Screamo isn't a genre, that's like saying rap is a genre.

Bands/artists since the 50's have been using screams in their music Fisha. Screamo certainly has enough bands to qualify as a sub-genre, if Ahab can have "Rasp Doom Whale Metal" as their niche I see no reason Screamo can't be considered the same.:D

Rap is a genre, in fact it is the pre-cursor to Hip-Hop, or Urban music if you prefer, but it is most definitely a genre. Otherwise 100's of music boards would not have made a specific section for it. I am not a fan of it, but even I acknowledge it is a genre of musical expression.

Exactly I had some great mates but once we hit the nightclubs I found myself slithering off to the live bands pubs, just couldn't take it.:bonk:

Even in that link it says that the tag is vague and I know for a fact (as I spend a lot of time around the local screamo scene) that there is a backlash from the screamo community against the genre being referred to as screamo and are trying to get people to refer to their music as 'hardcore' or the other genres branching off it.

As for rap, show me a 'rap' song. one that simply fits in the genre of rap

There you go check the artists in that link.

Also it says since the tag can sometimes be vague. Well they are trying to be called something they are not. They are not hardcore. They are screamo the genre label was created for a reason and most of the time (with grunge being the exception since it was just a term used as a marketing ploy) they are dead on.

By labelling them as screamo you're including bands like Parkway drive in the same genre as escape the fate in the same genre as slipknot and you know as well as me that's just not right.

Slipknot is a metal band. So no I am not including them in the screamo genre since they do not have any charactersitics of a screamo band.

Like I said earlier huge difference between screaming and growling.

My favourite slipknot song is wait and bleed which has what is closer to screaming than growling to my knowledge and if anything is more of a scream than parkway drive, the 'screamo' poster boys, I'm not saying slipknot isn't metal I'm just saying that the labelling of 'screamo' as a genre is ridiculous

It doesn't just have to do with the vocals. It has to do with the music as well. Combine that with the vocals and the material at hand in the lyrics you have the genre screamo.
