I really wish that Bolan would have went big with Elton John. They could have really done something. Ringo could have brought an awesome spectrum to it.
I've already been combing through the back pages of this thread, I've found some great stuff I haven't heard in awhile!
I agree OFB, you could spend all day on here and find something interesting to read or find.
Perhaps Bolan and Elton may have working in the interim but seeing and listening to Elton and how his style change Bolan they wouldnt have hung around much as he was totally in a league of his own.
Its such a shame we lost him when we did, he definately should have been around longer.
Yeah, the same can be said about quite a few artists from back then. I look at it this way, can you picture them as old men? I cant really picture it.
Its one of those losses that make the world feel a bit darker regardless of if you were alive then. Once you learn of their existence and hear the great music they had to play, you learn they died. Its genuinely sad and you feel the world give off a posthumous tint, because that person is gone, and HAS been gone for awhile. Somehow the latter seems sadder in a way.
OMG ! Ringo lol..sporting a serious Mullet before it was fashionable ! Awesome video ! Never saw this ...I love this thread lol ...I learn so much thanks O.F.B. and I agree Cinders
More 70s glam!.....Some more great bands who never did make the big time
THE SENSATION........Never heard of them..but this was pretty tidy from 1973
MERLIN.........I had totally forgotten about these guys ! They did make a brief t.v appearance, because I recall the song "alright". I was amazed to find out that members in the band were previously in the very impressive early 70s prog rock group named MADRIGAL [ Check them out...great stuff ! ]
MERLIN made one album and several singles
IRON VIRGIN.........from Edinburgh Scotland. Made a couple of singles. For their debut they asked Paul McCartney for permission.....a respectable cover of "Jet"
MARCUS......Originally from Detroit. Led by singer/guitarist Marcus Malone with Tim Bogert playing bass and produce their only album in 1976.A very obscure band who were mentioned in the very 1st copy of Kerrang magazine.
Marcus Malone is apparently still playing the circuit, and plays gigs in Europe playing blues rock
THOR........Always fondly remembered in the 80s with "let the blood run red" and other proto power metal tunes....THOR released their debut in 1978 and had more glam rock influences in them days. Jon Mikel Thor lived up to his name and was a spitting image of" he-man" His party trick was to blow up rubber hot water bottles until they burst....on stage.
Watch out THOR are about to make a comeback...an album and festival gigs have been mentioned
TEAZE......These Canadian hard rockers deserve a mention on CRF...they were well ahead of their time but never did quite break into the bigger league
