These are the memorable ones for me...

I became a fan of these artist after hearing these songs...

Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple
Heart Of Gold - Neil Young
Ramblin' Man - Allman Brothers Band
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Maggie May - Rod Stewart
Let It Rain - Eric Clapton
Karn Evil 9 - 1st Impression -Part 2 - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh
Help Me - Joni Mitchell
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Rock and Roll All Nite (Live) - Kiss
Dancin' Fool - Frank Zappa
Cat Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent

I remember the first time I heard ''Snot running down his nose'', me and my friends went wild, we thought that was so cool.

What I can remember is songs from Sweet and Alice Cooper. Probably were the Beatles, my Dad loves them.

Golden Earring's classic hit song "Radar Love", heard it on the radio and about 3 days later I bought a 45 single of the song.

I remember playing this for my best buddy, Robbie but he never really got into it, he was listening to the Bee Gees, Olivia Newton John, Neil Diamond etc., and I was well on my way into the heavy hard rockin' bands I loved and still do.

Holy balls. This is going to be an incredible list. Great choices so far; I'll try to think of some things nobody's mentioned yet.

(She Got Me) Pregnant - Sparks

I was sold for life after hearing this.

You Better Run - Pat Benatar

I was hooked since I was a little girl. That intro is sick! Mum used to play "Crimes of Passion" a lot. Great record; I still have that same LP and play it from time to time.

My Sharona - The Knack

Really. There was just nothing more badass than this when I was a kid. It sparked a lifelong love for the Knack, and yes, I cried like a little bitch when Doug passed.

Remember (Walkin' in the Sand) - The Shangri-Las

The song that was almost wholly responsible for my insane passionate love for 60s girl groups.

Nightspots - The Cars

What is this weird and wonderful shit? That is the question I asked myself as a wee little Lady. Thus began my love for Ric Ocasek. And electronic music.

There Is a Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths

...And then I fell in love with Morrissey.

Dancing Queen - ABBA

This song actually annoys me due to how much airplay it gets - and how some people will say "I love ABBA! They're, like, my favourite!" and only know "Dancing Queen". Wtf n00blet.

Anyway, shortly after hearing this I dug into the ABBA archives and have been completely addicted since.

I always assume that the first song most people would have heard from Sparks is 'This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us' (I have always loved that song btw & it was the 1st I ever heard from them), so that's interesting to know LiL. Just curious where did you first hear (She Got Me) Pregnant?

Dancing Queen is actually one of my least favourite Abba tracks. They had a programme on tv the other week, 'The Nation's Favourite Abba Song' (public were invited to vote online) & I assumed Dancing Queen would win as it always seems to top these polls, but there were some unexpected choices in the top ten actually - 'One of Us' was at no. 8 & 'The Day Before You Came' was at no. 3, and ....Dancing Queen was pipped to the top spot by Winner Takes It All (which happens to be my favourite ) :)

I actually discovered Sparks on Last.fm back in 2008. It was just a few months after the release of "Exotic Creatures of the Deep". Though, I do know that if I would have lived through the 70s, I probably still would have been terribly in love with the bros Mael and their weird antics!

Sigh, I wish America was as loving of ABBA as Europe!! Americans have seemed to forget about them, save for the "Mamma Mia" craze. Cool to see that some lesser-known (at least, in the states) tracks are able to top the list above the dreaded "Dancing Queen".

It's quite recent then - you are so knowledgable about Sparks I thought you had been into them for years! I keep meaning to ask you - did you see the Mael brothers in Justin Hawkins' video when he covered This Town Aint Big Enough...?

Yeah I can't see Abba ever being forgotten in Europe - at least one of their songs (usually Dancing Queen ) is always on the play list of every wedding reception disco over here. The tv show I mentioned was on a mainstream channel too at peak evening time, not some obscure satellite channel. Mamma Mia has definitely breathed new life into the whole thing, not that it was needed :)
