I don't pay much attention to Taylor Swift. Quite a few of the female pop (or so called "country" music) warblers over the past decade all sound the same. I flatline when I hear it that stuff.

Winning four grammy's doesn't mean it's good.

agreed :cheers2

I think Chris Robinson is expressing basic truth about the music business , it's pretty generic and formulated.I agree with his opinion of that, but

I don't think Taylor Swift is any worse then alot of the other pop princess' out there..she just the one in the spotlight at the moment.

Pop music is pretty sterile to me..I rarely listen to it and usually when I DO it's in the supermarket or over the nieces and nephew...something like that where I have NO control..for if I did have control OFF would be me postion lol:heheh:

Right on, Greg! Didn't think I'd get any consensus with that.

meh. I don't know why he is attacking her more then the other shit that is out right now.

I'd rather listen to Taylor swift then most modern pop music shit.

Exactly! Taylor Swift is on the more "legit" edge of the ultra-pop platinum spectrum in regards to the kinds of things Chris is talking about. If he had just said "Lady Gaga" instead, my post would have merely read "I concur."

Winning four grammy's doesn't mean it's good.

I wholeheartedly agree. After Jethro Tull beat Metallica for a metal grammy, I'll never believe anything the grammies ever say. And I agree with what Chris is saying in spirit, but the logistics are a bit messed.

Playing your own instruments and recording analog doesn't mean something's automatically good, either. There are a million forces to acquiesce to in this world, label bigwigs are merely one of them. I'd rather everybody records analog and all that stuff if the choice was up to me... but the choice isn't up to me, and the 'good' artists out there opt to go down innumerable paths. As such, I'd rather listen to a good artist who records everything into the Studio Magic Machine than a bad artist who records into a 4-track and doesn't have 'handlers.'

I agree with him that there aren't a lot of great acts today and that the digital age has inanimately engaged a violent scourge against individuality. Couldn't agree more, in fact. But I don't really think coming out circa 1990 with a band that tries to sound circa 1970 is quite the place you want to be coming from when you're railing against others' lack of originality... In my view true individuality goes far beyond recording equipment and how you dress.

I find it kind of ironic that after a legitimate attack on generic music produced on computers, he goes on to single out a pop musician that actually plays an instrument.

Thats' a good point Death, I guess he prob doesn't REALLY know enough about her and maybe randomly picked her name, cos I pretty much DETEST the pop /Idol etc people but I will give Swift credit/she at least writes and plays her own music. I respect her creative talent..in an era of music that seldom sees that.especially in pop music.

I don't relate to her music because I'm not a teenage girl ,but at least she not just flash n the pan crap like alot of these teen girls are...She will be around longer than Britney Spears type singer :)

Oh shazbot... I'm a teenage girl? I have to inform a lot of people.

:lmao:

I've learned that in forum world you never know who you're really talking to! :heheh:

Don't worry dude! I listened to musicians that i share a younger fanbase with as well! No big deal in my opinion. I like music by Hanson, Black Eyed Peas and Kelly Clarkson just to name a few so you aren't aloned. i also think we are equally unashamed of our taste! :grinthumb

I don't really know much about Taylor Swift or her music - was she the girl who won an award for best video or something and Kanye West invaded the stage whilst she was doing her acceptance speach saying Beyonce should have won it? I saw that clip and felt really sorry for her.

:cheers2 Agreed

...and I LOVE Tull. :grinthumb

Me too! It was laughable! I loved what Ian Anderson said when asked about the whole affair, "Well, we do sometimes play our mandolins very loudly." :heheh:
