Talk's the Yes record from 1994, right? I like that one. It was soft but it was still heady and I think it fits in well with other thngs that classic rock artists were doing at the time like Division Bell, Wildflowers, Walking Into Clarksdale. Hell even Neil Young was relatively subdued at the time, with the gorgeous Sleeps With Angels record.

Yup, it is. Talk was pretty light, but I consider it a good record. Endless Dream is an awesome tune.

I was waiting for Hep to get in here and raise the banner for a band we both love and respect, but seeing he's too preoccupied I'll state the case for a true marvel of the rock music world.

Jethro Tull. Started as a Blues rock outfit, then a hard rock phase, then a progressive rock phase, then regular rock, then my favorite period, the Folk Rock period, then an art rock album, followed by a Synthesizer/Keyboard dominated album, followed by another foray into hard rock again, then into World music the last time I looked.

Add to all that a stellar performance of classic Tull songs with the LSO with Ian Anderson playing his flute.(Instrumental versions)

Add an acoustic guitar album with different interpretations of his classic Tull songs.

And if that is not enough one of the best Christmas Albums ever recorded.

I don't think any band in my collection has pulled off as many changes as Jethro Tull has done with such bravado and quality music over 4 decades and counting.

The Doobie Brothers with Tom Johnston then to the Doobies with Michael McDonald. You still had the occasional rocking song with Patrick Simmons but their sound definitely changed.
Thank goodness Johnston is back and they are back to their original sound

You did it better than I would have anyway - probably because you've detected more dramatic changes in their music over the years than I have. To me each of Tull's albums has just evolved slightly from the previous one.

Could you list the albums that you would put in each of the categories you've given?

The Beatles are the very best example! Their sound evolved dramatically in the two short years between "Beatles VI" in 1965 and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in 1967.

The only question is whether it was for the better.

Thank you. I always viewed that track as an awful song, especially compared to their rock material. Thankfully they put more effort into rocking again during the mid-1990's and into the 2000's.

Beck is one of the most versatile and talented artists in the history of music IMO. He defines eclectic. He probably allienates many who liked an album because he will do a complete 360 the next. I admire that he has to balls to make music he wants to make and never ever give in to what might sell or a particular audience.

Well stated, Greg, and I have to agree. This is one of the reasons I like Beck, but I do pick and choose his albums. Some are good to me and some are rancid......
