Why is liking Jim Morrison more than Freddie Mercury wrong?

Every time I say this, I am criticized for “not knowing music” when I’m just expressing how I like how JM sounds more than Mercury (by a lot).

Thoughts on this?

To me its always subjective ......I like The Doors better than Queen....but I grew up with bands like Beatles ,Stones , Doors, Led Zep...etc.......I think Mercury has a stronger classic rock voice(sang mostly in tenor) but I also like Morrison's style/tone quality (mostly baritone) better.
It is really subjective on why one likes bands and singers over others.....and its not 'wrong'.

Exactly. It’s subjective. But people will say it’s “wrong” and that Mercury is the best of all time.

I like Robert Plant’s voice way better than Mercury too.

I tend to gravitate to 'raspy' voiced singers also....both male and female.
People like Robert Plant ,Paul Rodgers, Steve Marriott, Bob Seeger, Janis Joplin, ....etc ..but I like all kinds of vocalists.

JM was an original and he used his voice like a dramatic, hypnotic instrument. I just can’t stomach some of those spoken word things he did.
However, Freddy was a master at achieving vocal sounds via overdubs of his own voice. He had so many different vocal styles, which IMO made him the master vocalist.

Liking one over the other does not make you wrong or mean you don’t know music…lol.

I like Robert Plant, too. Especially his solo work.

...being honest and sticking to these two bands...
With Queen,I've always looked beyond Freddie Mercury...and since seeing them in a freezing London in '75- the overall sound was the thing...right upto News Of The World.
Same with The Doors...Jim's posturing did little to instigate anything within me...it was Ray's keyboard work that was the hook.
Like most things..it's a brand- that's sold with sex,attitude and hopefully talent.

I think it's very subjective, but I like both singers. I'm a Queen fan, but I'm very sorry that Jim Morrison died so early. He could have been the best frontman in the history of rock music.

The Doors (of perception) were a cool bluesy/rock band and Jim Morrison was a poet, a drunk and he died a rock icon and a genuine rockstar amen..
