Re: Blue Oyster Cult

I'll give you my list of their albums up to and including Imaginos, not counting live albums. From 1 to 11. I'm sure there will disagreements except maybe the last 2.:D

1. Spectres
2. Agents Of Fortune
3. Fire Of Unknown Origin
4. Secret Treaties
5. Mirrors
6. Cultosaurus Erectus
7. Blue Oyster Cult
8. Tyranny And Mutation
9. Revolution By Night
10. Imaginos
11. Club Ninja

Imaginos is rated somewhat higher because of the Astronomy reworking. If that wasn't on there, then it would be last. I have the first 9 and don't have the last 2 and have no desire at all to get them. I remember buying Club Ninja on cassette when it came out and thinking, "WTF?" I hated it and a buddy of mine bought Imaginos when it came out and I found it almost as bad. Unlistenable, both of them when you get down to it. It sounds harsh but I was so disappointed in both those albums. Especially since Revolution was not that great either. So-so but not as good as their previous 8.

Anyway, that's my opinion. For what it's worth.:D

Re: Blue Oyster Cult

My list would be a little different RE but I can't argue with Ninja and Imaginos.

Okay seeing we have some momentum, here is the next album 1985's infamous "Club Ninja". This is not anywhere near the quality that fans of BOC had come to expect from the band, no surprise seeing about half the album was recorded with session musicians. The attrition within the group had finally taken it's toll, and from what I've read Blue Oyster Cult considers this their worst record period. There are a couple of good songs, I'll post my favorite and let DKW post his picks.

Here's White Flags, a cover of the song off the Leggat Brothers album "Illuminations".(I like the original better, but this version is okay.)

Here's the cover and despite the average contents I thought this was one of the better covers BOC had over the years.

Re: Blue Oyster Cult

Gave Mirrors a good listen over the weekend. I can't see why BOC says it's their least favorite album. It's better than I remember and the wife actually likes it. (she has no tolerance for hard rock outside of AC/DC, go figure) But Mirrors is, imho, better than Tyranny And Mutation, Revolution By Night, Imaginos, and Club Ninja (by a mile). I think it kind of gets lost in the shuffle of all the great albums they put out in the mid 70s to early 80s.

The Great Sun Jester and I am The Storm are both awesome underrated songs.
Mirrors is definitely a really good album but I am with LG on T and M .Other then that I agree. I also like Club Ninja quite a lot though it took me a while before it grew on me.

1. Cultosaurus Erectus
2. Secret Treaties
3. Tyranny And Mutation
4. Fire Of Unknown Origin
5. Agents Of Fortune
6. Blue Oyster Cult
7. Mirrors
8. Spectres
9. Club Ninja
11. Revolution By Night
12. Imaginos

Re: Blue Oyster Cult

Here's my list, the top 5 are pretty much set in stone, after that they do change once in a while.:grinthumb

1. Secret Treaties
2. Tyranny & Mutation
3. Fire Of Unknown Origin
4. Mirrors
5. Cultosaurus Erectus

6. Spectres
7. Agents of Fortune
8. Blue Oyster Cult
9. Revolution By Night
10. Club Ninja
11. Imaginos

** Heaven Forbid
*** Curse Of The Hidden Mirror

The last two I haven't played enough to rate yet, but Curse might make it pretty high up the list eventually.

Re: Blue Oyster Cult

^^ I have both but didn't rate them either for the same reason.
So, I guess that I will join in on that little endeavor, and listen to both to reacquaint myself and then redo my list with both Heaven Forbid and Curse Of The Hidden Mirror in the equation.

Re: Blue Oyster Cult

I saw the BOC in 80 or 81 during the "Cultosaurus Erectus" tour. Loudest show I've ever been to. My ears rang for a week. Now there's an album that doesn't get near the credit it deserves.

"Agents of Fortune" is their best, IMO, but I like the first 3 a lot.

Re: Blue Oyster Cult

^^Perhaps some people may not give Cultosaurus Erectus the credit it deserves, by I certainly do! :) I also saw BOC on that tour and acquired a much more profound appreciation for them individually, their music and even more for the band! Even though Black Sabbath canceled their show that night, BOC chose to stay, jam the place into submission and dominate the audience as well! Dazzling experience, imo!

One of many highlights during the BOC jamfest!

Re: Blue Oyster Cult

^^Nice picture Rocker. And just another reason to respect BOC, giving the fans a show even if BS didn't play.

I've been warming up to Heaven Forbid the last few days, but I have to post Imaginos next to keep some semblance of order in here.
