What other bands would I like if I like classic metal, NWOBHM and thrash?

Ever since I discovered the music of Black Sabbath/Ozzy and Metallica many moons ago, my love for metal has grown exponentially. My favorite types of metal are just plain metal, NWOBHM and thrash metal, and my favorite bands include Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Metallica, Judas Priest, Saxon, Slayer, Diamond Head, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Exodus, Anthrax, Tygers of Pan Tang, Riot, Scorpions, Krokus, Fates Warning, Griffin, Anvil, Acid, and so on. If I like these guys, what other bands should I check out?

That's a good list there Diamond, Rush is and stays an education.. Uriah Heep and Nazareth are fine reference points also.

Well...I wouldn't consider Rush "metal", but I am intrigued by Uriah Heep and Nazareth, mainly because of "Easy Livin'" and "Hair of the Dog". I wonder which albums I should go for, though.

Up and down the years, Uriah Heep has been a great band, tho the album Conquest may or may not appeal to you.

UFO is another great hard rock band, especially the Schenker era stuff.

I started out listening to 70's classic rock and then got into mainstream metal in the 80's and 90's.

The last 15 years or so I've moved into a lot of European metal of all sub-genres.

Yeah I agree I like several 1980s Continental European metal bands although usually they started off during the mid/late 1970s but came to prominence around 1979-80 with the rise in the UK with the NWOBHM bands such as Iron Maiden, Saxon & Def Leppard. Continental European bands like the French metal band TRUST and the Swiss metal band KROKUS are both good bands to listen to.

TRUST are brilliant as far as I'm concerned their late 1970s and early 1980s albums remind me of early Iron Maiden up to a point due to the singer Bernie Bonvoisin who has a slightly 'punk' delivery with his angry and shouted song lyrics. The TRUST album Repression was a good one and gave the band exposure and a following during the NWOBHM phenomenom in the UK during 1980. The US metal band ANTHRAX covered the TRUST song Antisocial which is included on the Repression album.

The TRUST guitarist Norbert 'Nono' Greif plays lots of 'metal licks' on his Gibson plugged into a Marshall stack.

About 20 years ago I bought nearly all the TRUST cds I could find which were mainly imports from France and virtually all the KROKUS cds which thankfully I kept and never got rid of.

Yes, I mentioned Krokus in my starting post for this thread. I have their 1983 album Headhunter, and I've been thinking of getting another one of their albums.

Yeah I have all the Krokus cd albums from the Metal Rendez-Vous album in 1980 through to the 1988 Heart Attack album. The band became popular in the UK with the rise of the NWOBHM movement during the 1979-81 period. The Headhunter album from 1982 is probably their best album and I believe it was a commercial success as well. Both the Hardware album from 1981 and the One Vice At A Time album from 1982 are both good albums and are both worth searching out. After the Headhunter album the band tried to go a bit more commercial with the next album The Blitz in 1984 and the Change Of Address album in 1986. I don't listen to the band these days although I mite dig out some of their cd albums soon from my vast collection of heavy rock & metal cds and give them another listen to.

The two main guys in the band during the above era was Marc Storace on vocals and Fernando Von Arb on guitar. The song Eat The Rich on the Headhunter album (not the Motorhead song) is a 'killer track' with Von Arb's guitar solo on that song being a 'Air guitarists' dream track!!.
