Roger Dean's designs for the triple live album Yessongs by Yes. I know it sounds silly, but I used to buy albums on the strength of their covers and Dean's work always seemed very evocative to me.
I used to do that myself Martin, nothing wrong with great cover art.
So many come to mind, but I'll go back a few years and take "Spyro Gyra's" vinyl edition of "Morning Dance". It was superb quality and the jacket absolutely sparkled when you looked at it.
Opeth Blackwater Park is another album cover I consider a real thing of beauty.
Looks haunting, like its part of the very story it tells in the lyrics.
I always liked this one. This is a dull scan, because the colours are bright on the vinyl sleeve (it's not a gatefold). The music is pretty good too, if you like jazz-rock:
Sad Wings of Destiny by Judus Priest. The music will strip paint from your door! Sadly, JP never reached these heights again, mainly because the material was written by the previous lead singer, Al Atkins, and produced by Totally Tropical. They should've kept Atkins on in an advisory capacity:
