What happened to guitar solos?

The nature of today's music is really the reason we don't see as many guitar solos. Instrumental parts are much more tasteful IMO (there is a difference if you ask me, that part toward the end of Teen Age Riot is a good example of what I'm talking about- every member of the band is doing a lot rather than just one person).

Guitar solos are all over the place in the music I listen to.

The new bands I discover and the old music I listen to all have solos. I don't mind long songs either, being a RUSH fan...but I don't like when "jams" get too improvised and sloppy .

A little improv is ok but c'mon....have a game plan.
