I'd say there was a distinct connection between what i bought and listened too, just because it was the 80s, I did not restrict my ears just to this decade. Wages provided a means to purchase records I'd missed in the 1970s.
I pounced on heavy rock albums I'd missed and had the means to buy Scorpions, Dio and Whitesnake etc... plus all the post punk and American rock was so listenable.. UK rock was limited to about 3 bands.
These started out as a new wave act... toured the States and did what Flock Of Seagulls did..... dissappear!

I caught these live in the late 80s and thought they had promise... but like The Simple Minds - sample and snare became an obsession with one and all.

After the great Look Sharp album, this guy went down The Blue Rondo A Lá Turk Road....from the Sonny Rolling Pastiche section of Body and Soul LP.
