I was a teenager in the 80's but rarely do I ever meet people my age who listen to what I did back then. I wasn't much into what was current at the time at all. Although at one point I was into the current hard rock and mainstream stuff I soon gravitated towards classic rock and classic progressive rock. So for me it was mostly Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush, King Crimson and early Genesis. I have warmed up to 80's music somewhat later on and in fact U2 and REM are two of my all time favorite bands but at the time I wasn't really that much into what was current.

I started to drift away slooowly towards Ireland in the late 80's and this stuff..along with the black gold in a glass.
Christy Moore - Ride On.
If you ever visit these shores-this festival is a must..as they say here:" The craic was 90".
Christy Moore- Lisdoonvarna.
A sing around..or 'session'..you need hollow legs as this is often an a:m job!
Christy Moore - Ordinary Man.

I distinctly recall driving my battered Escort van and pulling over when John Peel played this:
Flock of Seagulls - I Ran.

I thought they were like Buggles on ***...brilliant band + hair.
Flock of Seagulls - Wishing...
They were the opening act at Live Aid in 1985.
Flock of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song.

Mainly 1970s heavy rock bands still which in recent years I regret because when I did get into listening to 1980s heavy rock/metal/trash during the later 1990s & 2000s I enjoyed a lot of it.

From the burning embers of punk..some great new bands were emerging..these were no exception, paying homage to Geno Washington and the 1968 tour. Kevin Rowland and co. made full use of Pete Wingfield ( 18 With A Bullet.) and his expert production.
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Geno

Maybe a rejection of Floyd, Purple, Pistols and the Specials here? Underpinning their convictions.
Burn It Down.
