They do use effects and distortion pedals, that's true. But still it's got that deeper and harder sound. Lots of prog rockers also played RIC, Geddy Lee and Chris Squire for example.

I guess I should say.. your passion to learn is far better than what I would have tried when I was your age.. I hope you keep up on this journey Nololob.. You want the best and I hope you achieve the best.. Remember this..
You may impress the audience with the instrument your playing.. But you also should impress the audience on how you play that instrument..
