hey guys, i've been wanting to learn how to play guitar for the past year (when i got into rock seriously)....never had time though...so now, with 2 months of summer vacations, i've got plenty of time, but not so much money(see:college guy).

so, i'm asking all the guitar players here for some advice on how and where to start...i'll really appreciate it :D

The first thing I would sugest is to learn on an acoustic guitar instead of an electeic. The strings on an acousitc are wider a part so it makes it easier to play open chords. Also the frets are further apart so it makes you stretch you fingers more for chords which is good for strengthing them. I would learn the chords G, C, and D next. They are the set of chords that are used in porbably 80% of song. If you can't get these down then you should learn E, A, and D which IMO are the simplest chords.

here is the link to a website that has a chord chart. It will show you where to place your fingers for the chord and which strings to strum

Finally when you are learning a song that you know, do not try to play it the speed of the song. Slow down as much as needed. Your brain may know how the song goes but your fingers do not. Once you have the riff down slow then work on playing it faster unitll it is the tempo it is supposed to be.
