The other day, CNN reported that presidential hopeful Donald Trump would introduce Def Leppard before their appearance at the Iowa State Fair next month. That’s news to guitarist Vivian Campbell, who hopes (like, really, really, really hopes) it’s just a rumor.

“I really, really, really hope that there’s no truth to this rumor,” Campbell wrote on his Facebook page. “Def Leppard have never been a political band, and if we were, I for one wouldn’t be associating my name with this clown.”

Def Leppard, whom CNN refer to as an “’80s hair metal band,” are scheduled to play the fair in Des Moines on Aug. 15. Trump aides told CNN that Trump, who’s currently campaigning for a spot as the Republican presidential candidate in 2016, will introduce the group before its performance, which is part of a summer tour that also includes Styx and Tesla. According to CNN, the Iowa State Fair is a crucial stop for candidates.

A little more than a month ago, Campbell said that his cancer had returned. He had undergone treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma over the past couple of years. Despite this recent setback, he said he doesn’t need radiation treatment and will join his bandmates on tour.

The group is playing songs from its long career on the road. While they’re not throwing any new cuts into the sets, they are finishing work on the follow-up to 2008′s Welcome to the Sparkle Lounge, which they hope to release in October.
