Vinyl Lovers, Rejoice: Technics Turntables Are Coming Back

new_technics_turntable-2.jpg

For years, one of the standards for vinyl lovers was the Technics turntable, made by Panasonic. Now the company is set to deliver a new take on the old favorite.

Panasonic has announced it will begin manufacturing a new version on the old favorite, bringing the Technics table into the new vinyl era. The announcement was made at the annual IFA press conference in Berlin where a prototype of the new direct-drive turnable was unveiled. The analog turntable will be entirely rebuilt but with new elements across the board.

“Turntables are a very iconic product for the Technics brand,” Michiko Ogawa, director of Technics and executive officer at Panasonic, told Wired. “It is important to show our sincere dedication [to that]. The turntable market is very small but it is a very important brand product.”

As we all are aware, the huge ressurgence in the vinyl market has inevitably made it an open road for the demand for new gear, and the company is hoping this new model will sit comfortably next to it’s old school staples, the SP10 and SL-1200. “With this product we can show how seriously we can address the high-end market,” continued Ogawa. “For analogue customers we have to bring our concept of music to them.”

I has to have USB out, right? Or would that be too new-fangled?

Already have one but great news anyway. Mine cost me around 265 American. Professional grade ...totally worth every penny.

It's gonna be $$$$$. Good thing I already have my stable of players. Also, can I just whine one time about the price of albums? Most of the new albums I buy are $22 or more. Hell, 2 of them cost $40 recently!

Nice to see Technics doing this, though.

Is a $50-an-hour national minimum wage also coming back??!! - all I really remember about Technics was the price of their stuff, which was about 300% more than everyone else's - but the audio/vinyl community are going to go ape about this, and they'll sell a load of them...my nice Denon turntable still does a very nice job last time I checked, though with me it's 90% MP3's these days with everything that I need, along with a lot of stuff which frankly I don't! - all stored on a 64-gig beast iPod in my inside jacket pocket.
