Bob Seger by a bazillion galaxies. And I actually don't mind the Metallica version. It's just such a let down from the original. I mean, the bass player doesn't even try to get that cool little riff (done on organ buy hey) that goes at the end of the verses.
Metallica's sounds very stiff and contrived compared to the original but then it would be very hard to outdo Seger on what I think is maybe his signature piece.
Love Metallica but their version is too much, too heavy. Seger's version really captures the feel of the story, which is a lonely story. Believe me, I love heavy but I love the quieter original studio version by Bob, and the live one you hear all the time on the radio.
