Re: "The Official" Tori Amos Thread

I'm always impressed with the effort you put into the threads for you favorite artists Sooty. :grinthumb

I agree with Tray in that I can sort of hear the Carpenters in those songs. Lady would love that. She should get her butt in here. :D

Thanks Cosmic and I agree Lady might have a new artist to listen too BUT right now since I'm inching along methodically and therefore have just started the music portion it might be better if Lady comes in once I've at least past Y Kant Tori Read (her 80's Hair Band rock group) and at least made it through her debut solo album! :grinthumb AKA Once I get off my ass and get through another couple updates! :heheh:

Well no rush Sooty. Newton's Law says that your ass don't feel like moving. :D

But when I sent Lady that hodgepodge of assorted new artists (new to her anyway) a couple months ago she said she really loved Tori's "Cornflake Girl" so she really should get her butt in here eventually......and for some reason we're talking about everyone's butts. :heheh:

I keep trying to get Sox into her, but haven't managed so far. He always seems to walk in the room when a particularly strange track is playing - one that immediately comes to mind is The Power of Orange Knickers - he said wtf are you listening to and left the room shaking his head :heheh:

A lot of my friends most of whom are rockers and or metal fans think I'm crazy for this but I really like the first two Tori Amos albums alot. I haven't really followed much more of her stuff but songs like God , Cornflake Girl ,etc. are really good interesting pieces of music.

@ Tray-I love The Power of Orange Knickers because not only does it have Tori but it also has Damien Rice who is also an amazing artist. I do agree that the song is quirky but strange is as much of a good quality in the fabric of music as anything. I mean hell half the people in here listen to Prog so they should LOVE strange after liking certain bands they like. By the way, that's not a knock to Prog! I happen to like a good share of it and most of my favorite bands incorporate Prog influences into their music! :grinthumb

@ DaKillerWolf-First of all thanks for your first visit in your thread. I've seen your epic threads and they show you know your stuff so you just gave Tori some good cred in my opinion by showing respect to her! :grinthumb I do think you jumped off the Tori bus too soon as her two follow ups are her at her most creative and vital. I have a review of From The Choirgirl Hotel which is my favorite period if you are interested. The links are all Grooveshark as Youtube is spotty for Tori studio tracks. Here you go:

As far as your rock and metal friends considering how much influence Tori pulled from early rock and Metal audiences they should probably give her a closer listen. No ones brought the piano closer to rock in my opinion! :D

Re: "The Official" Tori Amos Thread

I hate to admit that a lot of them are a bit closed minded when it comes to music of this nature.

I am interested BTW , I have been meaning to listen to more of her stuff for a very long time now. Into The Pink & Little Earthquakes are two excellent releases in my opinion. I really like a lot of female fronted alt (?) rock like Mazzy Star, Joan Osbourne's first album etc. And Tori is just very inventive and is a beautiful songwriter but with a weird quirk about her that I love. I am one of the many progressive rock fans here so I get what you mean about the similarities in the strangeness of her music and a lot of prog rock.

I will look into your review soon but I am about to head out for the evening to dinner etc. so I will talk to you later about my impressions etc.. :grinthumb

Re: "The Official" Tori Amos Thread

Tori played with an orchestra in Amsterdam earlier this month.
For several years Tori has not done the whole Yes Anastasia but with an orchestra she did the whole thing.

Great clips Aktivator. I still can't forgive myself that I missed her concert from 2007 in Romania. I have bought the ticket a few month in advance for the show but I could not travel that day to Bucharest :(. I hope I will have another chance in this life to see her live.
