Tim Bachman, Formerly of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Again Charged With Sexual Assault

Tim-Bachman1.jpg

Police in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada have filed sexually related charges against Tim Bachman, former rhythm guitarist for Bachman-Turner Overdrive. This is the second time he has been accused of such a crime.

The CBC reports that Bachman has been accused of sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching. These offenses allegedly occurred during the ’90s. The name of the victim has not been released. Bachman is free on the condition that he avoids contact with any minors, which includes staying away from any public facility where persons under the age of 16 may be present.

Last year, Bachman was found not guilty of sexually abusing a minor. A woman who had lived in Bachman’s house as a foster child claimed he gave her breast enhancement pills and repeatedly fondled her between 2000 and 2004, when she ran away from his house.

Bachman, who founded BTO with his brothers, Randy and Robbie, and Fred Turner, played on their first two records, the second of which featured the hits ‘Let It Ride’ and ‘Takin’ Care of Business.’ He was replaced by Blair Thornton in 1974, but participated in their mid-’80s reunion. He has been employed as a real estate agent since the ’90s.

How is it all these victims accusing famous people of abusing them are all from alleged incidents which took place like 20-30 years ago? .... it just seems to me to be hugely on the increase, but you never once read about somebody saying 'that celebrity so-and-so molested me last weekend'. For sure there's a lot of gold diggers out there Jet, you're right, though that's not to say there aren't genuine cases too, like the Jimmy Saville case. I read the other day that Rolf Harris is in court on sex abuse charges in England, he's the Australian artist/entertainer who did that kind of 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport' - style version of Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' - which was so terrible I'd have had him up in court just for that on 'offenses against music' charges.

On a far away island .....
I can't understand why the victims waited years before before accusing the 'famous' person of sexual assault either. They waited until Jimmy Saville was dead.

He's not really rich and famous, he left BTO before they really hit it big.

I don't know what to make of all this...:dunno:

I know there are genuine cases, but that just seems to "encourage" some people to falsely accuse other people just for the money. :uh: The worst of it is, that if Tim Bachman is found innocent it will still be like a scarlet letter, so to speak.

I think this is very true, Jet – even if somebody is found innocent, a criminal charge - which is later dismissed in court – can in many ways be just as damaging as a guilty verdict, which is why there should be laws prohibiting the public naming of any suspect, and he/she should remain anonymous until he/she is actually either found guilty, or acquitted. Especially in an emotive situation like a case of child sexual abuse, which is one of the most monstrous crimes imaginable, there will always be people who pass their own private ‘guilty’ verdict regardless of what verdict the court arrives at, so the innocent person can walk free, but their name and reputation is still destroyed. People say that the legal system these days seems to always be stacked against the victim, but actually it can be just as equally stacked against an innocent person wrongly accused of a crime they didn’t commit.
