1966: Guitarist Peter Green joined John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, replacing Eric Clapton. After the group’s next album, A Hard Road, Green left to form Fleetwood Mac with Bluesbreakers drummer Mick Fleetwood. Bluesbreakers bassist John McVie soon after joined the group as well.

1981: Pink Floyd played their final full show with bassist and main songwriter Roger Waters, at Earl's Court in London, England. Waters did reunite with his former bandmates for one last time, at 2005's Live 8 benefit concert, also in London.

1995, Rod Stewart set an attendance record at England’s Wembley Stadium when his concert brought in 90-thousand fans. The Live Aid concert ten years earlier only drew 72-thousand people.

1997, fans rioted at an Ozzfest concert in Columbus, Ohio after Ozzy Osbourne couldn’t perform due to throat problems. Angry fans broke windows, uprooted trees and turned over a parked car.

2007, The Traveling Wilburys went to number one on the UK album chart with Collection. The lineup of the Wilburys was: George Harrison (Nelson Wilbury), Jeff Lynne (Otis Wilbury), Roy Orbison (Lefty Wilbury) ,Tom Petty (Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr.), and Bob Dylan (Lucky Wilbury).

1942 Carl Radle (bass player for Derek and the Dominos) is born in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

1942 Paul McCartney is born James Paul McCartney in Allerton, Liverpool, England.

1963 Darren "Dizzy" Reed (keyboardist of Guns N' Roses) is born in Hinsdale, Illinois.

2011 Clarence Clemons, saxophone player in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, dies at age 69 after suffering a stroke. He is replaced in the band by his nephew, Jake Clemons.

1974 Rare Earth drummer Peter Hoorelbeke is arrested after throwing his drumsticks into the crowd at the end of the band's concert. He allegedly told the police that he had done it to get audience reaction. "If you had been trying to get crowds to see you for ten years, you'd do it too. Here I am, almost thirty years old and still doing this shit."

2025 Lou Christie, the singer/songwriter known for his soaring falsetto, passed away after a brief illness at the age of 82. Between 1963 and 1969 he scored five Billboard Top 40 hits, including Two Faces Have I" (#6 in 1963), "Lightnin' Strikes" (#1 in 1966) and "I'm Gonna Make You Mine" (#10 in 1966).

1967 The Jimi Hendrix Experience made its famous debut at the Monterey Pop Festival in California. A dispute with the Who as to which act would close the Festival was settled by a coin flip. Hendrix played an incredible set in which he lit his guitar on fire.

1973: Joe Walsh released his second studio album, The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get. Walsh was joined on the album by musicians Joe Vitale and Kenny Passarelli from Barnstorm, a power trio formed in 1972 by Walsh after leaving the James Gang.
