This Day In Rock History: June 17th


1966: Guitarist Peter Green joined John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, replacing Eric Clapton. After the group’s next album, A Hard Road, Green left to form Fleetwood Mac with Bluesbreakers drummer Mick Fleetwood. Bluesbreakers bassist John McVie soon after joined the group as well.

This Day In Rock History: June 17th


1981: Pink Floyd played their final full show with bassist and main songwriter Roger Waters, at Earl's Court in London, England. Waters did reunite with his former bandmates for one last time, at 2005's Live 8 benefit concert, also in London.

1995, Rod Stewart set an attendance record at England’s Wembley Stadium when his concert brought in 90-thousand fans. The Live Aid concert ten years earlier only drew 72-thousand people.

1997, fans rioted at an Ozzfest concert in Columbus, Ohio after Ozzy Osbourne couldn’t perform due to throat problems. Angry fans broke windows, uprooted trees and turned over a parked car.

2007, The Traveling Wilburys went to number one on the UK album chart with Collection. The lineup of the Wilburys was: George Harrison (Nelson Wilbury), Jeff Lynne (Otis Wilbury), Roy Orbison (Lefty Wilbury) ,Tom Petty (Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr.), and Bob Dylan (Lucky Wilbury).
